How to ajust HAGON Monoshock while on the bike???

I need to wind up the pre-load on the Hagon Monoshock on the 600TA since it’s getting a bit soft.

Is there I way I can do this with it still attached to the bike?

Bearing in mind I need to unlock the ring around the top adjuster before I can even move it so can’t just bash it with a rod and hammer to move it.

Is there an easy way to get to it without having to take all the air box and battery box off?

Bash the ring first and spin it out of the way. Then bash the adjuster to the desired position and bash the locking ring back again.

(Bash = apply gentle hammer blows via a soft faced drift)

I was going to say, I thought bashing your ring was only recently decriminalised.

No, you are mistaken. That's bashing someone else's ring you're thinking of. Bashing your own ring has never been illegal although it's not considered polite table manners

Firstly i'm not bashing anyones ring.

Secondly the locking grub screw in on the ajustment ring so if i bash it witout undoing the lock nut it will strip the thread on the shock or break.

Ah. I see. If you can't undo the grub screw then it's going to have to come off then.

If you can get the grub screw undone with an allen key and then free off the locking ring you may be able to adjust it like I do with my AT's standard shock

Spray with WD40 or GT85 etc. Grab the spring whilst the shock is on the bike and force the spring clockwise round the shock body. As you do this the lower ring should move down the threads thus increasing the preload.

Saves me taking the shock out. Not had a Hagon so do not know if it would work but worth a try

Paul, the Hagon's don't have a locking ring, the grub screw does that. Once that's slackened "simply" turn the adjuster.

Sorry Grendel, If you can't get to the grub screw, you'll have to gain access to it before adjusting the pre load.

    Grendel,

Got your PM - I think you need to talk to SteveR - he's the man thats got the Hagon shock fitted to his 650. My old clunker is still wearing it's original 1991 shock.

Got to say thought, bashing the ring, to me, just sounds wrong
