    spraying aluminium

I sprayed my aluminium home made panniers last week with gray primer and made a good job so i thought and even considered leaving them as they were however i went ahead today and started spraying them black (same brand spray), however the black is mixing with the primer as if the primer is still wet and blotching in places,

This is only in small areas like the corners but i cant see why if the primer set ok after 2 or 3 cotes.

    any ideas

    Thanks Barry

Did you use an etch primer on the aluminium first? than put a light dust coat over the primer first, then spray the next coat only when the last coat is almost dry (someone may be along later to say I’m talking rubbish but this has worked for me.)

+1 on the etch primer for aluminium alloys, you can use ordinary aerosols but it doesnt stick that well. if yours get hit with a stone chip the paint will fly off in flakes

I did my bash-guard recently and used halfords etch primer - which as pointed out above really is a must with ally - and some halfords 'gloss black' - smashing job, no runs blemishes or anything - sand it all back down and use etch primer you lazy lazy loggie.........

    Re: spraying aluminium

If I'm honest - YES! I work on my own every day and miss the banter, fag breaks and pi$$ taking that I used to love so much - and I dont care what anyone says - there's no feeling on earth like knowing that YOU are the Q Man, CSM whatever - its something that will live with me forever. But, my back couldn't hack it for certain so I would be desk-bound anyway missing out on the tours as well..........

Let your boss know you'd be up for a trawl and you'll get one soon enough - I was batting off trawls for Retched Mechs every week as Q Man - you class 2 or 1 cos that'll make a difference............
