    Voltage

I really, REALLY don't understand electricity. The car has a voltmeter that is showing about 11V when the car is running.

Putting the multi-meter across the battery terminals shows 12.10 at rest and 11.30 when running.

Can there be any other explanation than that the alternator's shot?

    Thank you in advance,

    Philip

    Re: Voltage

Sometimes it can be as simple as an earth strap broken somewhere. I had a non charging battery on a 2001 Ford diesel and that's all that was.
3 Africa Twins/280,000 miles. If it's happened to one of mine, it's gonna happen to one of yours.....eventually.

1 Varadero/17,000 miles ridden (of 40,000 miles on the bike), it's all still new to me!

Even a broken Jag is nicer than a Matiz. The seats are comfy and you can pretend you're a film villain of some sort or a copper on a stake-out In a Matiz, even a working one, you'll just look slightly sad.

Give over with the Matiz! They're great!

    Tis a Jag, Alan.

If the volts go down when engine is running, either the battery is u/s, the alternator is u/s or both are knackered!
Try a battery off another car - if the same thing happens - the alternator needs looking at - the alternator will probably be repairable - there are loads of repair workshops in S London.
I assume the red light is working on the dash and is going off?
