    Snapped key advice

Hi, I was in the process of removing my lidl lock from my bike today(plastic coated cable type) when the key snapped. Fortunately I was able to continue turning the barrel with the key stump and remove the lock. I have the other key and was wondering if anyone has any advice on how to remove the broken bit so I can continue using the lock as its quick a decent lock.

    Cheers

Try a small pin or needle to prize it out, once you have moved it out a little use pliers. This should work as long as the key stub is not bent. Good luck.

Unfortunately the lock is recessed and so needs to be edged out about half a cm before I could grab it with pliers thanks for the advice will give it a try

Can you get a good seal and use a vacuum cleaner? Upside down would get gravity on your side too.

tiny dab of super glue on the end of a thin bit of wire, glue it to the broken key.... being careful not to glue the broken bit in place

You could also try a 1mm, 1.5 or 2mm drill bit, depending on the thickness of the key and the material the key is made of. Drill a small hole into the broken key and then remove the bit from the chuck, wind the bit in a bit (pardon the pun )and pull.

Just remember the downside of this method could be a bit of swarf in your lock, so I'd be tempted to pop a bit of grease in the recess before you start and then clean up afterwards.

Thanks for all the tips, only ones I have not tried is the drill bit and the superglue, will give them a blast tomorrow. I have the lidl disc lock, this is the lidl cable lock, bike is parked out in the street so double up to try put potential thieves off.
