Riding to the Italian alps in March

A friend of mine is getting married in a ski resort in italy in March and I was thinking about shooting down from the UK for a couple of days for the wedding.

Has anybody ever ridden through the Alps in the ski season or am i being a complete muppet?

    Hi,

I suppose it could be done as long as you stick to the main roads. All the Cols and passes will be closed at that time of year, I have driven through the Alps in April (in a car) and there was still a fair bit of snow around.

    cheers, Bob.

    Hi Bob,

Thanks for your reply. I have driven to the Alps in the ski season in a car a couple of times. Most of the main roads are clear, the roads going up to the resort can be snowy/icy but they're pretty good at keeping the roads clear but they're used to those kind of weather conditions.

I was just wondering if anybody had done it on an @ and what they experienced. I've only had my @ for a month now so was really wondering if this is the sort of thing you'd do on it?

    Cheers, Marc

I've seen trial bikes in ski resorts with snow and ice on the ground they all had knobbly type tyres on, dare say a chain kit for the rear wheel is possible.
