Southern Rideout - Saturday 29th December

I thought I'd put this in a new thread so that it didn't get lost in the Ace Cafe arrangements.

    Saturday 29th December

    Start point:
    10:30am - Q8 Garage, Southampton Road, Fordingbridge, Hampshire. SP6 1AP

Circular Route (approx 140 miles) - Fordingbridge, Shaftesbury, Sherborne, Dorchester, Portland Bill, Bovington, Clouds Hill (where a certain well know Brough Superior met it's demise), Ringwood, Fordingbridge.

Planning on stopping for lunch somewhere along the way, and with the weather forecast, plenty of photo opportunities.

Myself, Annette and Cie are definitely going, so if anyone else wants to come along just turn up.

Re: Southern Rideout - Saturday 29th December

What a great morning. Geoff it was nice to meet you. Cie I'm sorry that due to my bit of a "whoops" in the car park you didn't have time to finish. Geoff thanks for staying.

We started off in Fordingbridge and all was well with the world, the sun was shining, the bike was running really well after all the work on it and the roads we took were small, twisty and empty.

All was going well until "let's go right up to the top of Portland Bill before lunch and see the view". Enter one very wet, chalk car park, exit one perfectly running @. I turned the bars one way, the bike went straight on and down onto a huge rock. My poor @ returned home 5 hours later on the back of a lorry with a dented tank, trashed fairing, and holed radiator.

Apart from a bruised leg I the only thing injured worse than my bike was my pride.......thanks for not laughing guys.

    But....lunch was great

Serves me right for not checking in for a few days. I live on Portland and I missed this ride out.

    Ah well, next time...

It was a great ride Annette, and we must complete it once your bike is back together.

You took it rather well I have to say, I'd have been seriously pissed off.

Well the roads between Fordingbridge & Dorchester were fantastic - sunshine, dry twisty roads, gorgeous views and scenery........then down into the congested traffic of Weymouth and across the windswept causeway to Portland.

After a brief discussion, straight up to the top of Portland Bill, where we pulled into a very wet chalk carpark..........and Annette has told this part of the story above. Wet chalk, rock and Africa Twin definitely don't mix

Well here are the Black & Gold trio just after hoisting Annette's bike off the rock.

And how could you miss those headlight covers.......

And Jeff's RWB @ still looking gleaming.

After a three and a half hour wait for the RAC - this was the inglorious end to Annette's day.

Great while it lasted - cheers to Cie for leading the ride and Big thanks to Jeff for sticking with us in a warm pub during the long wait for recovery - and for the swift blat back from Portland in the dark - great fun

    Grendel

We are going to do this route again.....and hopefully finish it this time, as soon as my bike is back from the garage. If you keep an eye out in the meet ups/rideouts thread you'll find the local ones.

There's quite a few members in and around our area so hopefully we can organise something soon.
