    Ideas for Easter(ish) 2009

I've got a pass to go for a long weekend or short week around Easter next year. (Earliest start Fri 27 Mar, latest return Sun 19 Apr.) Although I have some ideas on where I might go I thought it would be interesting to get suggestions from you.

    Polite ones preferably!

At that time of year I'd want to go somewhere with a good chance of being warm, so south coast England or north France would be possibles. Camping would be a distant possibility, but a bit optimistic for a softy like me.

Anybody else up for a trip? Ideas?

    France is brilliant .

Get yourself across the water and just ride, there are loads of places to camp or B+B. .

Although I'd agree with Stanbloke, my experience of Easter in France over the past 20 years (i.e. since my mother had a house near Carcassonne and then mine in Normandy) is that it's usually WET.

What's Carcassone like. Seen pictures, always wanted to go there. Will I be disappointed?
3 Africa Twins/280,000 miles. If it's happened to one of mine, it's gonna happen to one of yours.....eventually.

1 Varadero/17,000 miles ridden (of 40,000 miles on the bike), it's all still new to me!

Carcassonne is very impressive but usually spoilt by thousands of visitors. Go out of season and you won't be disappointed.

How about this then? Cross cheaply Dover - Dunquerque on Norfolk lines, overnight in Ghent Belgium, then over to the Ardennes to visit the motor racing museum at Stavelot near Spa. Down via Trier along the Mosel/Mosselle. A couple of days to tour the Alsace region or wherever our fancy (and weather) takes us! All interspersed with good company, good banter, good food and a little good booze! (In moderation of course.)

What do ya think? Who's up for it?

But I'm still wondering about the west coast of France. Down to St Nazaire maybe La Rochelle? I understand what Jacques says about rain though. Decisions, decisions...

I should have said that I'm thinking of using hotels and B&Bs. A bit early in the year for me to go camping! (What a southern softie!)

Its still going to be a long ride till you find nicer weather, France may be wet at Easter but we have had snow and ice the last few years its great for hiding the kids eggs but not too good for enjoyable riding.

the weather trends for the last few years was mid march a warm week the flowers start to come out on the fruit trees garden looking all nice and then Jackfrost comes back with a vengeance a buggers up the lot just around the easter school hols

I may be off to Corunna Northern Spain in Jan/Feb I want to do it on the bike but I may wimp out and take the Van/Bike (but I have to get the contract first)
