That's really not a good voltage for what you want to do!

I'm a uni student, and hants is my home location. I only started riding lanes about a month before I left and didn't find much, I'm now in Bath. If you know any lanes then I'd love to come ride with you in the spring (going to get engine bars and some TKC's then), currently I'm not doing much in the way of off-road to try and keep the TA intactish; a bendy gear lever is the only concession I've made to riding off-road so far

Wouldn't using a switching circuit give nasty output?

Ok, Yes I need 14V7 so will have to build a new circuit. The switcher gives a smooth DC o/p (suitably filtered!) and would like to replace the 'crude' 'pass tranny' design.

OK your from Hants, Blimey there's more lanes over there than anywhere with the exception of Wiltshire. Plenty round here and in fact you have the best (most difficult) local lane on your doorstep, Pipehouse Lane. Take a ride up it from the south as it starts very easy and then gets rather more difficult. Not sure on what bike you have that's up to the job but needs to be light with very knobbly (but road legal) tyres. Spring's a nice time of year but winter is way better once the leaves have cleared as you can see the ground!

I know this area fairly well and have done every lane (pre NERC) in Avon and around. Salisbury is OK but rather more open which leads you to increasing your speed which makes it rather unsafe! There are a few gnarly ones round there but prefer the local lanes better.

Get a map and I'll highlight ALL the ones I know.

If you want to meet up before the Nov meet let me know, I don't mind coming over to Bath.

    All the Best.

    Stretchy.

That's good news, will have some fun when I go back home in the summer . I did see a very muddy XR, but I was heading past him at a great rate of knots, so didn't stop to ask about lanes.

I only have the TA with tourances, so pipehouse could be interesting. Willing to turn around halfway if necessary? . Would love to take you up on the map offer sometime. Would you be willing to show me a couple of gentle lanes to keep me occupied over the winter? Hopefully make it to the november ubley, but not 100% sure; if I don't we'll have to arrange a time to natter, but I'll do my best to get there.

As with any dual purpose machine there's always a compromise and is this case (apart from weight!) it's tyres. Most of the lanes are quite snotty and will become more so the wetter and colder it gets. I guess the best (and easiest) one to start is the famous 'Fosse Way', easy to find, easy to get to and easy to do, that is how I stared on a 125cc 4 stroke. If you get some O/S maps (the red ones) and a highlighter pen I'll pop over one evening and we'll go thru' the area. There's plenty around and it's fun finding them on the map first and then finding them for real the first time. I have an application called 'Memory Map' which runs on a windows PDA and have O/S maps of the local area so I can 'cheat' now!

Re 'Pipehouse' have a look yourself as you can park up over the road (bridge) and walk up from the west. Just go to MULTIMAP.com and put in 'Pipehouse Lane', select the one near Bath and then choose O/S map so you can see it properly; there you go you can have a float around and find the rest now! Put in 'Keynsham' and have it centered on the screen, see how many there are around there, ALL perfectly legal and they're good lanes too escpecially the one from Stockwood Vale.

I'd really have to suggest another bike for the local stuff (with the exception of the Fosse) but 'The Plain' is suited to bigger machines as is way more open.

Let me know when your about.
