I take it the Heidenaus are the K60 model? Just fitted them today so no idea what they are like in the wet or on tarmac....will let you know after my Scotland trip. However, Paul-S who is one of my neighbours recomended them and has just completed the Longest day on them, approx 1,600 miles from leaving his house to getting back so Id say they are good on tarmac and in the wet. Ive just fitted them for a 2000 mile ride round Scotland next Saturday so Im also hoping they are good on tarmac as well....as well as the muddy stuff when I return.

As for buying...Ive just bought mine from www.mytyres.co.uk - delivered to your door and reasonable price. Then took them down the local bike shop who fitted them for a tenner each.

Thanks for the link: they do have good prices. K60 on its way, I hope. Front rim ordered for re-build, also fork bushes and taper steering bearings. Looks like I'm going to be busy! How did you get on in Scotland?

OK, so who is up for this off roading trip? Need to start finalising the plans.

The original idea was to meet at Llangollen for a midday depart on Saturday 7th August, trail ride in the afternoon, camping wild, then finishing some trails off on Sunday before travelling home.

As it happens I am now free next weekend as well (31st / 1st) if this is any better for people?

I only suggested a midday start and overnight camping trip to allow people to arrive from long distances but as it turns out most people that have already replied are local'ish to the North West / Wales.

So........happy to stick with the original plan of 7th/8th August but heres some more options.....

    1) Weekend of either 31st / 1st OR 7th / 8th

    2) Meet at midday and camp wild OR meet first thing one of the mornings (either Sat / Sun) and make a full day of it.

Like I said, Im happy to keep to the original plans if thats what people have now planned on....but also happy to change if thats what people want????? Will be going with the options suggested by previous people who have replied first as its only fair.

Come on, it will be fun...time to get the bikes dirty!!!

Hello Tim, I can now confirm the K60's are fantastic on tarmac and in the wet. I was hitting corners at 80 on single track roads and flying round them. No matter how much I leaned over the tyres just gripped the road. Cant fault them. I used to have 2 riding styles, one for the dry and one for the wet. I now have 1. Fast. Scotland trip was great, theres a write up in the ride reports section.

Cant fault the K60's, I dont think they look as good as the TKC's but as long as they handle well off road I wont be switching back.

Hi there.. 7th or 8th "full day ride" is best for me.. But Let's see the Majority decision ..

Thanks for the info. Got my new K60s, time to try them out. Encouraged by your wet weather experience, haven't ridden the Twin on knobblies before, so was a bit wary of wet grip.

I'm still up for the 7th/8th, and I'm easy about either one full day or two day with camping. Ideally, I'd prefer the latter, I don't do mornings. You have been warned! But I'll go with the group decision. Looking forward to it.

    Tim.

    7/8th August it is

So far have just the 3 of us, any more takers?

African Simba prefers full day, either Sat 7th or Sun 8th.

    TheTimKirby prefers overnight

    Me - Ill do whatever.

We need someone else to tip the scales in favour of either a full day Sat or Sun, OR overnight camping along the way.

Promise it will be a fun day / weekend. Ive done the Welsh trails several times now and they are really good fun.

Unfortunately can't come on this one due to other commitments. But if anyone is considering it, I can certainly recommend Beddows Trail Tours. We've been out several times, and Mr B has researched some really good routes.... several very remote reasonably lengthy (2-7 mile) offroad sections high up in the hills with fantastic views normally only enjoyed by sheep...

Re: Trail Riding weekend - North Wales

Still only the 3 of us. Been giving the camping some serious thought and think its probably best to avoid if possible. Would mean camping gear strapped to the back of the bike.......which worries me in the event of a mishap. Im off on the Galloway trip the week after this so cant afford to damage the rear rack of my bike as I need to use it to get my gear up there....and no options to strap my bag elsewhere as I'll have a pillion for galloway.

    So, Saturday 7th August.

    Full day out.

Shall we say start at 10am? Should give us all plenty of time to get there?

Meet near Llangollen at the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct. Its about 3 miles from Llangollen between Trevor (north of the River, A539) and Froncysyllte (South of the River, A5). The B5434 joins the A539 and the A5. Meet in the car park (think theres one on each side of the canal but theres a bridge over so doesnt matter which one you end up in, just park the bike next to the canal where it will be easily visible).

Pontcysyllte Aqueduct in North Wales | days out | canals & rivers

The first trail is approx 2 miles from the meet point.

End point will be around Betsw-y-coed. Lots of trails to do between Llangollen and Betsw-y-coed.

Tim, I think you said you were from Angelsy, African Simba - where you travelling from? Ill be coming from Runcorn.

I'll PM my mobile number shortly.

One more week to go.......any more takers?

Sounds good to me. Actually, I was wondering how to get all the camping gear on the bike, as I don't have panniers yet, so a full day suits me. And unless it stops raining up here soon, we'll all need bl**dy wetsuits!

Thanks for putting the effort in to organise it. I'm looking forward to it.

    Tim.
