Hi Ian, how are you?

I love the Dolomites, been there a couple of times - roads & scenery that are out of this world!
Anywhere around Cortina is good, I have camped at a place called 'Campitello' (near Canzei) which is beautiful & smaller/ less touristy than than Canzei/Cortina.
There are plenty of walks in the area, war graves etc along with great roads etc.
I have been in late April & it was trecherous & many of the passes were closed etc & again in mid June - beautiful weather but some pics from 2 weeks later - the weather had turned & the high passes had been closed/restricted access!
Aparently High summer is a nightmare as the place is heaving with summer holidayists - it has been lovely & peacful when I have been there.
I'm sure late summer early Autumn would be great too - probably less chance of snow than earlier in the year?
I normally pick up local maps when I'm there but "Motorcycle Journeys Through the Alps & Corsica" by John Herman is worthwhile.

Ned to pick your brain briefly (if I may be so bold) -

Thinking next year of heading off to Italy and the Dolomites with a couple of mates - you seem to know the area from some of the research I've done - Cortina seems to be the place to head for but what's the best time of year? Thinking Spring rather than Autumn. Any thoughts, suggestions, maps or books?
