BMW recalls bikes over leaking brakes

BMW Motorrad has confirmed it is recalling of R-Series boxer-twin and K 1200 GT bikes built between August 2006 and May 2009 because of a potential fault in the front brake pipe.

Vibrations may cause the front brake pipe to leak.

“BMW Motorrad would like to reassure customers that the number of motorcycles, in which leaking brake pipes was noticed, is very small (one-tenth of a per cent). No accidents have arisen as a result of this fault,” it said.

    Check handlebar brake cylinder
It warned riders to check riders the brake fluid level in the handlebar mounted brake fluid reservoir. The BMW Motorrad dealer network will be contacting all customers who own motorcycles potentially affected by this fault. Many have already received letters.

BMW confirmed that those who bought bike privately will be contacted direct by BMW using registration records from DVLA.
