Welcome to all bretheren of the Dark side!

I guess this is where I am destined to lurk now I've went to the dark side?

History of my Triallies for the new guys, after several years of off road with Yamahas, Hondas, Suzukis, Ossa's and Bultacos I saw and fell in love with an @T!

Bought my first RD04 12yrs ago, since then four other @T's, RD07 models. I know these bikes inside out, have all tech spec on them and frequently answer questions on the Africa forum here, some will know me!

Followed this with a 51 plate Varadero, after 2yrs decided to go to the dark side and bought my current Triumph Tiger 955i.

The Tiger is a lovely soulfull bike, the triple possibly the sweetest sounding motor I've ever owned. I've covered around 7000 miles so far this last four months, all over Europe and just love the Tigger

During the Stella Alpina I learnt just how good the Tiger is offroad, agile and oceans of power, I fell in love with the bike then as I was pining a little for the Vara while touring.

Glad to see we're all being made welcome by the forum, regardless of the dark side! I'm glad to remain here on XRV.org and give the guys any knowledge I have to keep the old @T's alive!

Anyone need any advice regarding touring or technical stuff I'm happy to help out.

    Chin chin.

Hey AJ, what's the wind noise level on your Tigger? I've heard/read tha it can be fairly loud.

I don't know much about the tigers except they do accelarate pretty fast from 70mph onwards

The green coloured ones looked pretty funky to me

    Hi guys,

Ok, the wind noise? Horrendous! I've tried three different screens but same issue, I believe it comes from the fairing design, it curves round the headlights and gets narrower where it meets the screen for handlebar clearance, I believe the wind is being tunneled through this gap between the fairing and the mirrors and causing the turbulence. Must add this is only at speeds above the UK limits!

The Varadero was much quieter, but the @T was about as bad as the Tiger though. Earplugs, which should be compulsary any way, and problem solved.

Mav, speedwise, up against the Vara and the GS they both pull huge gaps from junctions and corners due to the torque of the twins, unless you're caning it. You have to work the Tiger a bit harder to get max power! Keeping the bike on the boil it's more than a match for the GS and on a par with the Vara but slightly harder work (8000 rpm upwards to keep it boiling! Race pipe with race mapping approx 112bhp at the crank))
Top speed so far, 135mph, on a par with the Varadero but well ahead of the Beemer.

Overall, the Tiger is a very able bike, offroad rides like an XR, the back wheel becomes very live, onroad, rides like sports bike, pegs ground at both sides occasionally and it's a tall bike, long way to the ground!
The finish is very good, doesn't seem to have the same annoying rusty fixings that Honda have had of late. I like the bike and will keep it for a couple of years. Another? Possibly.
