    Dealer rip off issues

    I noticed a post on the Vara forum mention BMW dealer rip offs. I'd like to point out Triumph are no exception to this.

    When in getting the EFI remapped for the race pipe I was told I'd best book in for my 12,000 miles service, I was advised take my wallet, when I enquired if it would be expensive the guy told me without any parts, over £400. He explained that it would take most of the day and, no disrespect to other bike dealers, it would have to go to Triumph as they are the only ones with the electronics to deal with the EFI.

    I got the bike serviced locally, valve clearances and all for £248.00. Now, my local guy, not used to Triumph accidentally put the EFI warning light on by removing the air flow meter without disconnecting the battery! As it shows a fault code, light on dash. In a bid to fix this before I found out, he called the local Triumph dealer for advice. He was told "we make a lot of money out of putting the light off". He was quoted £80 and not this week!

    I then come into the picture, much digging about on the internet and I found three heat cycles (up to temp three times) with no fault found the light will go off. Did this and the bikes been fine since.

    Anyone up here in the N.E. of Scotland will know exactly which dealer I'm on about. The Aberdeenbikers website are currently running a poll on this very dealer. The Tiger may be technical but not impossible to service yourself. Mine was still within warranty. I'm still happy with my Tiger and will answer any questions here if I can. I'll be carrying out servicing myself from here on. Be careful out there!

    Hi mate, here's what someone posted on the Tiger forum yesterday;

    I've used the tuneboy quite a lot recently. Its excellent, more than just a tune downloader (but you can find that info on their website)

    "The main thing for me was the ability to download a tune to use with the standard exhaust that removes all the restrictions to the fuel mapping introduced to meet the emissions regs for various countries. For me this made a lot more difference than fitting a race can (and another tune...) although I now have a race can (and another tweaked tune).

    If you want to tinker, and have the time to learn a little about it, its well worth it in my opinion. "

    Sounds like a great gizmo, but it's around the £300 for one. Someone else suggested getting together with other owners and buying it between ourselves, good idea I thought, yes, Capo is Sagem EFI as well.

    i'm glad to hear you got round that. Our local triumph dealer is ex-road racer Phil McCallen and he is a very sound bloke. i'll keep what you did in mind though for my mate who has a 1 yr old tiger.

    Hi Jim..

    according to the site www.tuneboy.co.uk the tuneboy is a lead and software.. when you first connect you read your efi code number email it to them and you get an unlock code.. so it looks as if its then bike specific but its is still cheaper than a power commander.. and a diagnostic tool too.. any waht beat the crap out of rejetting

    But I need the bike first.. still hunting
