    Ok, Ok, you guys win.....

Have arranged a test drive of a KTM 950 for mid August in Manila. If I like it, will try for a 990, as they are currently out of stock.
The force is just too strong to resist here....... though not enough to make me sell the @.
Just one small (vertically challenged actually), niggling problem however, convincing the wife...... any thoughts on that one?

Explain how these bikes are becoming ever more popular with collectors and that in the not too distant future you might make a small profit from it, if kept long enough, with which you can buy her something nice.

Keep it at a mates house.

Put a pair of pants and a skirt on the bed, call her over and ask her to choose which one she wants to wear, after you've done the KTM deed.

    Ignore the subject.

All my mates have more than one bike.

"Have to keep up with the Joneses dear"

"You don't expect me to use my new shiny motor in the mud now do you? What if I drop it and gets damaged? The repair bills will be more than the @ is worth!!!!!"

    Or my favorite........

Ok I'll sell the @ but then I will need a hack bike..........XR650!!!!!

Try and test ride the 990 before you buy it - there have been quite a few people complaining about the poor fuel injection. As for the wife, tell her you bought it months ago and what sort of wife is she not to notice something so important to you.

I've had a go on the 990. You will have to have serious controll over your right hand to keep it smooth. It is very twitchy on the throttle response but you can get used to it. I'm only a wee man with hardly any legs and even so on the standard seat I managed fine. The bike is a different class to anything xrv related and I'm sure you will soon forget about leaving the @ in the garage. You might even end up selling it to make room in the garage. My opinion only lads, I'm sure there will be others who disagree.

I liked it in a strange way. My TA...I love, the KTM I think you will have to get used to as it is a very purposefull bike geared for specific tasks. The AT-TA brigade are more allrounders for me and easier to live with. I like the KTM more than the BMW but would rather get a Beemer with the cash in my pocket and the two bikes back to back in front of me.

A test drive can make you say yes but a weekend with the bike will really let you know if it is for you or not.

It's easier to beg forgiveness than it is to ask permission.

    Or so I've been told
