Looks like it could be prudent for Sir to dress on the left when that's built, Trickytrees!

That '83 bike is gorgeous. Good luck, and keep us posted!

A thought from the comfortable position of a complete absence of engineering savvy: Is the original RS750 one derivation of the engine from which the 600TA arrived, and if so would it be possible/easier to see about either boring out or fitting your barrels to a 600 engine?

I did notice that site a while ago...anyway I took your advice and mailed him last weekand he said he will get back to me with the missing part of the jigsaw, fingers crossed.

The only parts that have made it from the XLV to the RS are the crankcases, and even these are hevily modified by machning and welding. I supose it depends on how close you want to copy the RS, at least using the XLV engine gives you a 750cc 45 degree aircooled V-twin that has a prety close DNA match.

The more I find out about the RS the more I realise I will have to make most of the bike myself. I had hoped to be able to use an alloy S/Arm from a crosser (some of the works bikes used a modified CR item) but you cant get a 19" tyre in any of the ones I have come across and then the rear suspention linkage is unlike any Pro Link I have seen.

As soon as I (hopefully) get the last few frame details sorted then I can start building the frame, Im a bit stuck till then unless I want to compromise on how the bike will turn out.

I'm on a bit of a mission now to get the bike as authentic a practical.....if I then want more then its time to make some cylinder heads (thats when it becomes vital the air filters are fitted right!!).

Goodday, I am Jan. I live in Holland. I found the website via google. I am building a caferacer with an 750R engine at the moment. I am very interested in your project, the flattrack-machine. I have read your posts, they are from a while ago, but how are you doing with the bike? Have you found a solution for the chain drive yet? I am very curious, with regards, Jan. jan.heikens@hetnet.nl

Looks like the trail has gone cold on this one.Any developments since the last post? Tried many years ago to do something similar but the amount of work needed to convert an XLV to chain drive is simply prohibitive.
As far as the RS engine sharing any components with production v twins is a myth, the only details that are the same as the XLV is it is air cooled, dry sumped and has the same bore and stroke(the same as XR750 Harley) All production twins are 52 degrees with offset pin crankshafts, the RS is 45 degrees with single pin crank designed to mimick the xr750.
I'm sure all the references to production engines were for homogolation purposes. "Is this a production engine?" "Of course it is ,we use it in a trail bike in Europe". Sort of senario.

I would check and see if they did any other 750 v-twins air cooled around that time. Personally I would look at an XRV engine for reliability.

It's too bad this thread seems to be abandoned. I am doing a similar build. Click here for my build thread.

I have also been trying to get more information on flattrackers. That thread is here.

If anyone knows what happened to this build or where I can get more information on it, please let me know.
