How much??? That is the acid test. If it is a fair price could be good.

    claimed spy picture here

F800S is 6,300 pounds. 182kg, 85bhp and they claim 60mpg or more, so I guess 50mpg isn't unrealistic in the real world.

I'd expect the GS to cost a bit more (if only trading on the reputation of the other GS models), maybe make 75bhp, and use a bit more fuel through worse aerodynamics.

So it ought to be good... but then a old BMW greybeard once said to me, never buy any BMW built in the first 3 years of production, they take that long to get the bugs out!

So maybe in 2012 I'll look for a nice 2 year old example

    Re: F800GS

If that is it then I wonder..........Why?

By the time this gets released you would be able to pick up really nice 2nd hand 1200GS with more power and only 15kg extra weight for that money or less. Why go for it then? Don't like the exposed engine!!!

I agree, there must be a bit of Photoshop magic going on there.

ORRRRRRr.....Could it be BMW are trying to win over all the hardened @ owners too. If they can do it to Power Rangers you neeeeever knooooow.

I hate to say it, but I think BMW will clean up with tis one - shame about their obsession with big beaky things on the front of their bikes

    Re: F800GS

It ought to be good, judging by the reception the F800S got... and though ithat's a new model I haven't yet heard reports of it blowing up.

Then again you don't seem to hear reports of BMW failures unless you look quite hard. Maybe owners are so sensitive about their bike's shortcomings, after spending so much to get the badge, that they don't like to admit the bought a bit of a dog?

    Re: F800GS

The F800s have had a few issues, mostly to do with the belt drive (new washer on the clutch as in certain situations it could weld itself to the shaft, and a new front pulley, due to tensioning issues with the belt drive at low speed). People who've had the work done say that the bike is perfect now.

The ST and S owners are getting anywhere between 55 and 65mpg, depending on how much city use and high speed work there is. One guy in Australia on an ST got 415.8kms on a tank before running dry - he put 17l back in to fill it up, which is (divide by, carry the 1.....) 259 miles and 3.74gal so 69mpg. Not bad.

    Re: F800GS

I'll certainly be having a very close look at the F800GS when it arrives, as a potential replacement for the Alp. It was a close call between the F650GS and the Alp last time I replaced my bike, ( the Alp swung it with slightly better weather protection and front mudguard).

I can't wait to see what they do here - it should be a stonker.

Oh and it'll be a chain drive - nae way, they will put that belt gizzmo on an offroader.
    2011 Triumph Tiger 800 - "Black Pussy" - MMMM Nice !!!
    2000 Suzuki DRZ400S - "Ol' Yella" - very bright
    2011 Peugeot V-Clic 50cc - "Scoot" - It's my wife's, an enjoyable ride.

    I have a house , but I can't guarantee it's safe !!
