Why am I finding myself fancying a Buell Ulysses ??

Why ??

I`ve got two BMW R1100GS

And a rather trick modded BMW R80G/S

And a Moto Guzzi NTX 650 trailie

And a homebrewed CB400F Frankendirtbike

(Plus my two Ural combos)


So why am I finding myself fancying buying a Buell Ulysses ???

Lots of parts on the Buell look very fragile.

The handlebars look ****e,as if they`re nicked off something from the 1970`s.

There`s acres of plastic all over it.

The wheels are horrible...worse even than the new Triumph Tiger.

The steering lock is very limited.


Yet I kinda like it......can see me using it lots and enjoying it.

And to make it worse,my girlfriend likes it too....and reckons I`d enjoy owning one,despite her love for my 1100`s.


Why is this????

Have you lost your mind?!? Have the Urals loosened your common sense when trying to break the 65mph barrier?

Don't do it, man!

Seriously, I think it would be a money pit, particularly if you evidently ride in all weathers. Last I heard Buells had a reliability record that make a Gilera look like a Pan.

not only that, the Ulysses, tries to do the Dual Sport thing....badly and so ends up be not much good at anything. Sat on one at the ExCeL: very so-so.

I am certain that they are a blast to ride as with any short wheelbase, quick steering V-twin, plus they sound quite good. But that is about it. For that sort of fun, I'd get a pukka Super moto or an HP2.

Or get a tidy TL1000s for a fraction of the cost. now, that was a bike that gave you a grin likely to cleave your head in half, and it kept going!

Took one out last year and LOVED IT! Very nearly bought one, (and still might) only in a fit of common sense did I buy a Transalp instead, (as the bike is my main form of transport for work every day, my main concern was reliability.)

Well,I may be beyond redemption.

Went up to Manchester Harley Davidson this morning and booked a Ulysses test ride next Thursday.

I dunno why but I find it very tempting.

I can afford to buy one as things are,but I could always sell a couple of bikes that I hardly use and buy a Ulysses cash !

Anyway....it all hinges on the road test.
