    Triumph Tiger

I had a little play on an 02 tiger today. Lovely bike but didn't do my confidence much good cause I could only get my little tippy toes on the floor.

How easy is it to lower one of these beasties and how do you do it.

I know that one of you wonderful guys or gals will know.

You never know it could be my new bike

Sean I work in Cardiff, is yours the full height cause the one I had a play on seemed really high and although I really loved the bike would be too nervous to ride it. I could only get one foot on the floor and that was tippy toes. THe other did almost touch.

Mr Mabel suggested dropping the forks, and I wondered if there were lowered seats around.

It looked a really nice bike

THey wanted £4299 for it and offered £2000 for Twinkleteos ( I am still working on Mr Mabel but I think Twinkletoes may just have to stay )

mines the 1050 tigger. there is a "shortarse" seat available, also on mine there is a height adjuster on the rear suspension. i'm probably going to be in cardiff either monday or thursday, i'll let you know. dont worry about dropping it, it'll be fine.

Nice looking bike Sharr, must say I have been tempted by a tiger for some time now. Africa Jim swears by them and I agree with him on the overall finish of the bike, they look good and run well.

What year is the one in the picture ?
(They are selling well in Scottish Bike Trader at the moment.)

    Re: Triumph Tiger

It's a funny bike, it feel far taller than the Africa Twin but I don't think it is on paper. It's the shape of the seat as much as anything - I'm totally comfortable on the AT but on a 955 Tiger I felt rather nervous. Good news is that after a 90 minute test ride I felt pretty relaxed on it, so i guess that after a few days ownership it doesn't seem anywhere near as bad.

Anyway, the seat is pretty much a big rectangular block so I'd think that there's scope for making is lower and reshaping too, without wrecking comfort. If you search the Africa Twin forum there's no shortage of threads mentioning various people who can do this for seats

I wouldn't be put off if there isn't an "off the peg" low seat.

I'd also talk to Sprint Manufacturing. They do replacement seats for various Hinckley bikes. They don't specifically list low versions but it's worth asking - you won't be the first person to enquire about a low seat for a Tiger. Also if there's a better option (shock/forks), or indeed if there's any reason why it can't be done, they'll probably know, and they'd tell you rather than take your money.

    Re: Triumph Tiger

Just bought a Tiger myself and a friend has lowered his really easily.

The rear wheel axle is clamped into the end of the rear forks in such a way that the clamp can be loosened, the bit the axle sits in can be rotated 180 degrees so the axle now sits towards the top of the clamp and not the bottom. I think it drops the rear by more than an inch.

You can just about make it out on the photo above.

A good tip, but remember it only works with the earlier Tigers (spoked wheel versions); later ones have a more conventional chain adjustment...
