On the pics with the rider on it seems quite small to me......or is he a giant? Also concerned about wind and rain protection (Does not look good on the 1200 either. But I´ve never rode one)......yeah, I´m a real sissy.......
Some protection is much preciated though, when you are crossing Germany or running out of time on your return from North Cape in may......+3 and rain......

I've heard between £6,000 and £7,000 for the 800, which would make it pretty reasonable. I think the F650 is the one that Honda should be kicking themselves about. On one hand we have the F800 GS with a claimed dry weight of 178 kg, 85 bhp, 21" front wheel, top speed of 125 mph and a seat height option of 34" (the standard is over 35" though). Thanks to the spoked 21" front, that would have been a contender for the deceased Africa Twin. But closer to the new 700 Transalp in engine size is the F650 GS - that shares the same front wheel size with the new Transalp, although it's alloy, not wire spoked. Critically it is 171 kg dry (almost 30 kg lighter than the TA 700), and 71 bhp (almost 10 bhp more than the TA 700).

On paper you would be mad to buy the new Transalp! After all, although we know reliability issues abound with BMs, both Honda and BMW have similar 'reputations' for build quality. If anything, BMW are probably thought to be slightly better built, although I doubt that personally.

Honda have missed the boat, and it damn well serves them right for ignoring this side of the market. Though it pains me to say it, a large part of me hopes they are punished heavily in the sales department for going after the V-Strom 650. I think even Suzuki will be worried about the F650.

its the bike honda should have built lets face it once again BMW have done their homework and this ones a sure fire winnerand as always the japs have been scratching their collective asses im mean look at the new TDM what a lilly liverd attempt that is as for the new transalp im sure its going to be a great bike about the same power as an AT but just to damm heavy the new f650 is infact an 800 but detuned to put out 10 horses less than the GS if what i read in the MCN was correct either way this is one war the krauts are winning
