    Talking Xt550 Upgrade

    Please help

My mates got a 1983ish xt550 but wants to upgrade to a front disc brake, does anybody out there know if the forks and yokes on the xt600 are compatible for a straight swap onto the xt550?
if so do the yokes fit on the xt550 head race bearings etc

Also does anybody know anywhere that still sell complete exhaust systems for the xt550 as front pipes are peppered.

I put a YZ front end on an XT500, just had to grind 3mm off the bottom of the headstock. and fit taper roller bearings.
it seems most yamaha trail and off road bikes use 25mm top + 30mm bottom headstock bearings.
just have to go and do some measuring of headstock/stem lengths.

It`s got to be worth trying an XT600 front end.

There`s plenty about in breakers and at autojumbles...I got one for £60 once!
