    Starting problems with fmx 650

Hi , I have a FMX 650 which I have added a full arrow exhaust system K&N filter, and Dynojet kit stage 2, The bike goes sooo much better and tons more fun however when the bike has not been run for a few weeks ie in the winter it is a pig to start, if the battery has not been plugged into my optimate you have got no chance , I have tried trying the choke at on full , 1/2 not at all but it just refuses to crack into life, has anyone else who has done these mods had the same problems, My brother has the same bike with similar mods and he is also finding it a problem HELP

    Cheers
    Rob

This is going to sound strange but try it anyway................turn the petrol on with ignition off and shake the bike vigoursly. After a couple of shakes to stir the petrol up start the bike as you would normally.

It allways worked on my Serow and does on my DR350 (both bikes are left standing at times).

Let us know if it works for you

PS. I have no idea how this works but it does it for me.

I used to have similar problems with my FMX. In addition to an optimate, I also put some additive in the fuel over winter and this makes all the difference. I sometimes leave the bike for up to a month in the winter and only go through a few of tanks of fuel between Nov and March, so the fuel if bound to go a bit off. I use Briggs and Stratton lawnmower fuel stabilizer, but there quite a few on the market (eg. Motorex)

I've tried the shaking thing that Bob suggests and strangely this worked on occasion, but I no longer do this since I discovered additive! Oh and as you'll know too well, never ever touch the throttle when starting.

Works for me too. Always do it to the @, and used to do it to the old XR400. It does make a difference.

Draining the carb float bowl does miracles after a few weeks standing still...
