I know very little about these, and Jenna would be the person to confirm this or tell me it is a load of BS. But i was looking at one a while back and a bike mechanic friend of mine told me that as a rule 800cc single wont last long.. too much strain or something. So i would read some reviews and see what more informed people think.

Re: Dr Big

I suppose it must be a fairly massive piston to be an 800 single and I guess that whilst a big harley must have similar sized pistons there must be some balancing effect of having two, plus being made from girders probably helps.

Re: Dr Big

never owned or ridden one but i have seen a few (even one doing a motocross event up in cumbria!.. when it was ticking over it reminded me of the Norton Commander things that the police had which would vibrate around the carpark on their own when ticking over on a center stand )

Think the engine is a bit of an 'acquired' taste as its not fantastic at anything thanks to a measly 50bhp!, its certainly not well liked by many RTW aficionados due to parts problems and dodgy build quality and a titchy tank.

Thats a shame, I thought it might have been a rip-snorting monster... in a fun kinda way.

Re: Dr Big

hunt down gaspipe on advrider he's had one a while and done a fair bit with it... also speak to the mechanics at Trotts in Harrow as they import them by the dozen for resale in the UK.

Re: Dr Big

I have two DR800s - fantastic bikes
I do a 20 mile commute into Central London each day and they're ideal.
They have a 105mm piston which is counter-balanced, I certainly don't get the vibration mentioned earlier - as for small tank, the later one has the smallest tank of the two - only 24 litres!
