I like it, pity I couldnt afford it. But for the mo Im more than happy with myTA
Nope, I'm not going to read it, and you can't make me.
I'm going to ban myself from this thread. I don't want one, I don't want one, I don't want one..................................![]()
can i start the controversy and say - what is the point of it!
the true green laners ain't gonna like it 'cos its too big and heavy and expensive
the tourers aren't gonna like it because despite what the tester says the 1200 GS is gonna be a better 2 up long distance tool (as is the vara)
and people who are after a general adventure bike and who will use it for occasional muddy adventures but mainly road touring with a bit of larking around off road (xrv national style) aren't going to want to spend that much!
i know this sounds negative and i guess that they will in time produce a nutter off road one and a more road one but it seems like they are just cashing in on LWR without making anything particularly new!!
....
ok ok ok i'm just bitter that there isn't gonna be a new africa twin!
but on the same note - is that a bad thing??
look at the old tenere and the new one - nice yes but is it the same, does it envoke the same image?
would a new africa twin still bring to mind the paris-dakar behemoths?
it's like golf GTIs (cages for those whith only 2 wheels) the original was an icon and a pleasure to drive - it meant something the new one is lardy and essentially just a show off car not a connesseurs choice!
i have no idea where this post is going or why i'm in such a ranty mood
sorry all!!
i'll be back later without a bee in my bonnett!

There is nothing in that report that has put me off yet. I was interested in the 1200 GS but having ridden it offroad its just too clumsy in my humble opinion. I love my Twin but its getting a bit long in the tooth and it too is not that agile when you get it off the hard stuff. The 800 seems to fill the gap and tick all the boxes. Most of my riding will be 70-80% on the hard stuff and the 800 seems well suited to that. But when I do get off the track I want a bike thats not going to get bogged down as much as the 1200 and I can flick around a little bit. It seems a good compromise.
