I was in Motorrad in Alton today and you couldn't get near it for the middleaged blokes in tight leathers wanting to trade in their 1200GS's

'Twas not a pretty sight I can tell you.

    vader looking to swop already

You should have left Stormforce at home.

Re: Is it safe to go look at a new BMW F 800 GS?

Just came back from South London BMW. Got a free sausage and egg sarnie and a good cuppa!! Tried both seats on the F800GS. I'll stick with the regular seat. The lower one offers less comfort. Now I'm in a dilema. I'm due to take delivery of my F800gs on April 17th but Im not going to be around to ride it for ages. Do I go through with it or wait ? I want a shiney bike I want a shiney bike

I must admit, the bike looks great, not so sure about the whole BMW "thing" though. Seemed to be a sea of All The Gear No Idea balding beer bellys all with the full on 1200 ADV, but all very very clean, probably never seen rain let alone mud all squeezed into matching BMW textile suits...Hmm, I never felt so young before

Lots of BMWs on the surrounding roads, no nods let alone waves

Did get a trade in price for my 8000 mile 06 Transalp in good condition....

    .....£2500 - £2700.

Also they didn't seem to want to sell the 800GS without heated grips and on-board computer, pushing the price up to £7100 otr

I will probably book a test ride next week coz the bike is a stunner, felt right sat on the thing, overall looks pretty well made, but the price is getting close to the 990ADV.
    F800GS ...broom broom yeah!!!

Re: Is it safe to go look at a new BMW F 800 GS?

popped into Cannon bmw in Braintree.

They had a yellow and black demo bike - which looked very good

    I didnt ride it

I did sit on one in the showroom - first impression was how small it felt - ideal for offroad fun, but im not so sure about touring on one - there seemed to be very little room to shift about. (not that i do a lot of touring )

All looked very nice and very well put together, but you'd definitley need crashbars and a very protective sumpguard/bashplate if going off road - I thought as standard the lower part of the engine was VERY exposed - mainly cases that could be damaged.

Then i popped back outside and got chatting to some of the oap's who were interested in my bike

Then went for a ride to Ipswich and back home (had to pick up some chain oil).

I cant afford a new bike at the moment anyway, and after riding Goliath all afternoon im still very happy with the bike ive got But IF i had the cash, id have one as a second bike
