    Dakar makeover

As I've sold my DR350 my BMW 650 Dakar will be pressed into more off-road action and as I want to keep it a bit tidy I decided to take the panels off and keep them in the loft.

So onto Ebay to find replacements, I wasn't worried what colour they were as I would paint them anyway.

These here came from Hertford, Yorkshire and Greece !!

I have prepared them ready for paint

Bristol Mottorrad came up trumps with these two yesterday

So last night I rubbed down the black panels ready for painting.

Up early this morning and the first job was to wash the bike as it was a bit dirty

    That's better......

Then I removed the original Dakar panels .........

A cup of tea then into the garage and cover everything with dustsheets (old curtains) and start spraying the panels.

    Here they are finished

I wasn't too picky as they'll probably end up getting knocks and scratches when trail-riding but I thought they came out OK.

The colour is Ford Olympic Blue as seen on MK3 Cortinas and Escorts in the late seventies...

A couple of decals were added to break up the blue...

and there she is............ready to go and play

Very tasty and a funky colour too.

It's not a case of whether we can fix it or not - it's more a case of how fixed would you like it?

    Nice job.

especially with a 30 year old can of paint.

    ps
had a 72 RS1600 (bda) many years ago same colour (not sure on shade name).

'That's not just blue, that's 70's Escort Mexico OLYMPIC blue!'

I'm now wondering if a couple of different colour bodykits done cheapo style like this would fend away the recurring urge to change bikes.......................................?

My wrist is aching a bit after all that work but I think it's proved that it will stand up to a bit of gentle trail-riding next week
