    Rideouts...

OK, Barftone and I are organising some rideouts for the National Meet on Saturday (BTW, does anyone else want to organise and lead one as well?)

We both have something in mind with a possible meet up at some point, but I'd appreciate your thoughts on...

Roads only? (Lakeland roads will be challenging - narrow, twisty, heavily corrugated surfaces - even more challenging if it's wet)

A bit of easy off-road? What I have in mind is doable on road tyres but you may well drop it? Also, we'd have to limit numbers to 6 (or pass through in groups of 6) if we're to avoid the wrath of the LDSPB.

Mainly off-road? Well, I'm having problems stringing a decent route together in the Lake District. There seem to be an infestation of TRO's breaking up 'old' routes I once knew. Does someone have more current knowledge?

Also, the rideout I'm planning covers approximately 170 miles. It'll hopefully be a ride out to remember (hopefully for the right reasons!) but is that too much for you realistically? These will be 170 miles on very varied roads.

We will be up for the road ride outs but remember there will be a few of us 2up which might slow down things even more.Narrow, twisty and wet is not so much of a problem as long the speeds are right.
We did a lot of narrow twisty stuff up in Scotland and it was ok just make sure you plan in a few coffee brakes. It is so nice to brake up a trip like that, have a chat about the roads just ridden and than carry on to the next bit
They call him "Ze Quiet one"
I listen to what the rice crispies tell me to do

Thanks LV, I forgot about pillions. I'll plan my route as a pure road run and there'll be plenty of breaks too.

Its just i know with debs on the back we manage sort of 70-100 miles on a motorway between stops but doing country roads its a lot less and than the time factor comes into play. On country roads i reckon you looking max at 1 1/2 hour in between stops. Also it is a lot more hard work for the guys doing the 2up, i remember arriving on skye campsite after i think a 10-12 hour ride from glencoe and was absolutly buggerd. You just have to concentrate so much more 2 up as you dont want to scare the **** out of the pillion as well as wanting to keep up with the other guys

    Re: Rideouts...

I would be OK to lead another rideout in a different direction covering Northern Yorks dales and North Pennines. My thoughts were:

Dent....Hawes...Buttertubs pass.....Kirkby Stephen.....Langwathby.....Hartside Pass(2nd twistiest road in UK and biker friendly cafe at the top)......Alston.....Barnard Castle.....Richmond (call in at Altberg boots if I can find them again))....Reeth.....Thwaite (5th or6th twistiest road).....Hawes.....Dent.

I am guessing at about 120miles and all on mainly minor roads (2 short sections of A66), but awesome moorland scenery. I haven't ever done this route in one go but have been on all the roads at some point (that's not to say I can't guarantee I won't make a wrong turn at least once and I am sure we will find a cafe or two.
