It's not a mid-life crisis....I dunno what it is......
Location was great with the Lakes one side and the Dales the other. It is also about halfway from the top and bottom of the country.
The loos were well worth it. They were brimming to overflowing by the time we left so if any more people were coming we'd need another one.
I think the disorganisation was attractive, not least because it was not an official event with an organising committee. Make it any more formal and we will need to put up no smoking signs in everyone's tents and take out insurance.
Chad found the campsite and told us the address but we each booked in ourselves and paid ourselves.
Squirrel sorted out a marquee
Xander suggested a spares parts table
Robster did a design
I sorted some T-shirts
Three people organised rideouts for the Saturday, others three different rideouts together on the Friday
Dave booked some loos
Somebody (Dave will know) brought along a few gifts to give the people who led rideouts etc
Everyone bought some booze and shared it in the marquee
Oh, and Fletch gave several demonstrations in bike dropping![]()
So who was in charge? Who could be sued if anything went wrong?
If someone else wants to organise a BBQ then great, but I think the fact that individuals organise little bits off it and it all comes together in this anarchic way is actually very helpful. If we make it official we will have to charge, put up "Warning: may contain nuts" signs and those doing the cooking will have to done a food hygiene course. Mabel will have to be on official standby (in her nurssey outfit) with a full medical kit and defibrillator.
So, instead of that, a couple of people volunteer to bring BBQs. Somebody else ask the local shop to get in a stack of charcoal so we can walk down there and buy it local. Everyone bring their own food and slam it on the BBQ and cook it themselves.
I have tyre levers strapped to my bike so if people want to try taking their own wheels and tyres off, just ask (bring your own spare tube though).
Keep it simple. Keep it unofficial.

We should do that anyway as i have all weekend not met one normal person
"Mabel will have to be on official standby (in her nurssey outfit)"
Carefull with comments like this,i shared a table for a cuppa with Mr.Mabel.He is a bit on the bigger siteWell i took me sort of 3 hours riding around to figure out who that big guy on the strange mechano set was. But,sharp as i am, as soon he metioned mountain rescue and deb translated the rest he said,i knew
"and defibrillator."
Maybe we could use it if that guy on the KTM shows up again to jumpstart his bike
but i still can not figure this multi quote thingy out![]()
Just a little more of a loose itinery would be nice, then people could organise them selves on what they want to do.
as for the same site next year ---i think a move round each year is fairer on people from a gographical point of veiw.
Dave, how about Court Farm @ Banwell (Weston Super Mare) -----its a cracking site with its own bar in the barn
Apart from that everything else was great.

When I met up with this bunch in 2006 it had a very relaxed atmosphere and a 'do-your-own-thing' attitude. They organised a BBQ on a 'bring your own' basis and it worked very well.
Would also be a very interesting place for XRV-ers to try their hand at off-road. An excellent, if expensive (especially booze), trip!

I have to agree with previous sentiments - keep it simple and 'loose'.
It was great to have the organized ride outs (of which i didnt do any- wasnt meaning to be antisocial), but to be honest i didnt feel left out as i was more than happy to go off and do my own thing at my own pace and then catch up with people later.
I dont think theres anything i would change - apart from pitching next to that mini-thumper bloke who kept snoring![]()
(and me not drinking so much and making sure i join at least 1 ride out next time).
And it seemed whenever anybody had any bike issues anybody who could help jumped in to do what they could which was great.
keep the format the same i think![]()
