Who knows which way we went?

Right, just gonna do my ride report, but have no idea which roads we took on the Friday and Saturday rides - Friday was the Wrynose and Hardknott, but four of us (Recycler, JohnR, Richard and I) got seperated from the main group so don't know where we went, and Saturday's ride was Austin's - anyone got track logs of those two that I can convert?

I know that the Friday ride involved Ambleside, Grasmere, Wrynose and Hardknott, but no idea how we got to Ambleside apart from some dual carriageway work at the start

Re: Who knows which way we went?

No Garmin track log, but I do have a Memory Map overlay with the general route on it. Which I could attach if it would let me, or I could email.

    For the non-technical
    1. Dent to the B6255 via the minor roads.
    2. B6255 to Hawes
    3. Leave Hawes heading East, at edge of town take left onto minor road SP "Keld". Left at T junction up hill, then right after about 200yards (and drop 2 bikes apparently).
    4. Stay on this road over Buttertubs pass to Thwaite.
    5. Turn left onto B6270 towards Keld, also SP Kirkby Stephen.
    6. Stay on B6270 to Nateby, turn right onto B6259 and about 2 miles into Kirkby Stephen.
    7. Through high street and just out of town fork left, onto B6259 (again) SP Warcop.
    8. Stay on B6259 until it joins the A66 NorthEast of Warcop.
    9. Turn left onto A66 for about 10miles.
    10. 1 mile west of Temple Sowerby trun right onto B6412.
    11. Stay on B6412 into Langwathby. Turn right onto A686.
    12. Stay on A686 through Melmerby and up Hartside Pass. Hartside cafe at top.
    13. A686 to Alston. Turn right into the Town,up hill and bear right at fork SP Middleton In Teesdale (B6277).
    14. Stay B6277 to Middleton in Teesdale. In town Centre turn right to stay B6277 and follow signs for Scotch Corner, passing through Mickleton and the outskirts of Barnard Castle.
    15. On reaching the A66 turn left for about 5 miles looking for a right turn onto the B6274 SP Richmond.
    16. Follow the B6274 into Richmond.
    17. At Roundabout in Richmond turn right and follow signs for Leyburn on A6108.
    18. Leave Richmond and after about 5 miles look for right fork SP Reeth, B6270.
    19. Stay on B6270 through Reeth, Gunnerside, and Muker to reach Thwaite.
    20. Turn Left onto the Buttertubs pass road, and retrace your route to Dent as per 1 to 4 above.
About 150 miles. Many places to stop but obvious ones are Buttertubs pass, Kirkby Stephen, Hartside Cafe, riverside at Richmond.

    Sounds like you either took

    1. the A591 to Ambleside from Kendal (small roadworks near Kendal and a fairly direct route)...

    2. or you went south from Kendal, and along the A595 (big roadworks at end of dual carriageway at Newton) then up the side of Windermere from Newby Bridge. Quite a few miles more in total than the direct A591 option.

Re: Who knows which way we went?

I didn't do this run, but know the roads so.....

The direct route from Sedburgh to Kendal would bring you into the North end of Kendal to join the A6. You would have then gone through/round Kendal Town Centre and headed north towards Ambleside to join the A590 at a big roundabout (also B5284) where you would effectively do a right onto the A590. Short stretch of dual carraigeway onto single carrigaeway and down long hill with a suicide lane and after about 5 miles reach Windermere Town. Mini roundabout on outskirts of Windemere is road up Kirkstone Pass. From windemere the roads narrows somewhat and runs along the lake side into Ambleside.

If you took Kirkstone Pass you would have turned left at the summit and down a very steep road into the North end of Ambleside.

If you did a lot of dual Carriageway at the start then you probably travelled from Sedburgh to Kirkby Lonsdale then to Kendal on the A65 - cross the M6 at junction 36.

The ONLY other realistic way would be that you took the B5284 and then travelled through Bowness to Windemere.

If you didn't do any of these then really did go the long way round.
