    Autoresponse

    Hi Dave,

Couldn't reply to your latest post as it blocked me, so using this route in.

In the cc input field could there be a wild card character so that if any subscribed member receives an unsolicited message whilst Autoresponse is active, the posting person only receives the Autoresponse reply. I think that selective (a short list) Autoresponse would be difficult to manage as 'sods law' would have it, the person getting in contact during the Autoresponse active, would not be on the list. Just a thought.

    Re: Autoresponse

    Dave,

My interpretation of this Autoresponse facility is based upon a user creating the equivalent of a 'buddy' list for the duration of the Autoresponse. If you receive a message from a member who is not on the active (from and to date) period list, no response would be sent.

Microsoft Exchange has the 'Out of Office' facility where anyone sending their first message of the day to someone who has 'Out of Office' switched on, with any accompamying message, receives that notification. Out of Office messages remain active until cancelled. No 'buddy' list is required.

If, on your proposed system, instead of entering a list, could a character (*) or (all) be inserted to tell the Autoresponse facility to reply only to the member sending the initial message? I am only thinking ... but maybe the software is not setup to do this. Many thanks for your hard work in improving the forum's facilities.

Ahh I see. I think your interpretation is wrong. It's purely an "I'm away" system, so that people sending you PM's know why you aren't responding. I get loads of PM's every day, generally with problems, and in my case it would be great for those people to know that I am away and won't be responding to them. At the moment I get increasingly urgent PM's as people chase me.

There is no facility for a buddy list in this modification. Your second paragraph is exactly how this mod works, exactly like the Outlook / Exchange out of office facility.
This isn't a mod that I've coded either, as where possible I'm trying not to code these things nowadays.

    Thanks for the suggestion though.
    Cheers
