    Unread posts

I log in about once a day. I used to click on the "New Posts" link and up would pop anything between 20 to 100 posts.

Since the move, I get hundreds of posts. The first 20 to 100 are "proper" new posts since my last visit, but all the rest are under the title

"The threads below have not been updated since your last visit but still contain unread posts."

How can I get rid of these ones without having to go into each forum and mark everything read?

    Thanks

Once you've read everything you want to read then on the bottom of the main forum page is a MARK FORUMS READ link...or you can click this link

    http://www.xrv.org.uk/forums/forumdi...hp?do=markread

Hmmm this is a by product of the request some posts below to introduce the system where the forum knows exactly what posts you've read and haven't and will remember this for 14 days.
May be this is excessive and should be down to just a few days? Say 2.

    Re: Unread posts

Kymmy, thanks for the response. I did try that the first time, but then they came back again. Would I have to do that each time I visited the forum and checked the threads I wanted to read? It could become a bit of a faff that way.

Yes please, Dave. The reason I've not read them is probably because they're about something I'm not interested in. As a result, the fact they contain unread posts is not relevant to me.

Thanks both for the responses. I wondered if it was something I'd inadvertently done.

    Re: Unread posts

I've set it to 3 days now.
So let's see how that goes.

So if you don't view a post for 3 days it will be marked as read.

    Re: Unread posts

Cool thanks Dave - the new system was starting to bug me also , there are a lot of threads I don't read where the content is of no interest.
    2011 Triumph Tiger 800 - "Black Pussy" - MMMM Nice !!!
    2000 Suzuki DRZ400S - "Ol' Yella" - very bright
    2011 Peugeot V-Clic 50cc - "Scoot" - It's my wife's, an enjoyable ride.

    I have a house , but I can't guarantee it's safe !!

    Re: Unread posts

It's possible to do some filtering when you search.

    The New Posts link is
    Code:
    http://www.xrv.org.uk/forums/search.php?do=getnew
but you can add to the end of that forums that you don't want to include, such as jokes (forum number 44)

    Code:
    http://www.xrv.org.uk/forums/search.php?do=getnew&exclude=44
If you don't want to read about Ural's then add forum 84

    Code:
    http://www.xrv.org.uk/forums/search.php?do=getnew&exclude=44,84

    Re: Unread posts

    All,
Cie suggested some more links in the Quick Links drop down so I've added options for 15 Min, 1 hour, 4 hour, 8 hour new post links.
So if you click on those you'll just get the newest posts.

I seem to remember someone saying that those links weren't excluding the Jokes forum as they should.
    Is anyone getting that problem?

    Cheers
