It also does not work on a server installed Wordpress (Wordpress.org, not Wordpress.com) website when the Guardian and MCN do (I agree it does work on wrodpress.com blogs as I have tried it).

There may well be a solution involving me changing settings on the website and throwing away my mac and buying a PC, but the fact remains that the xrv.org.uk RSS feed does not work as simply (RSS = really simple syndication) as all others. That is not good.
Ok but my point is that in which case it's outside of my control.
It can't be anything to do with a PC or Mac as we're identifying issues at the web browser level which pretty much removes the OS layer.
I agree it would be nice if it just works, but in my experience RSS doesn't always. There are many different things that can trip up the readers. There are also a few different flavours of RSS. So combine all of that together and its not unsurprising it doesn't always work.
It may be that the commercial feeds you are consuming have spent time optimising their feeds, detecting readers and formatting accordingly or something, I just don't know.

You could try the 3 or 4 different outputs that vBulletin supports:
    http://www.example.com/forum/external.php?type=rss
    http://www.example.com/forum/external.php?type=rss1
    http://www.example.com/forum/external.php?type=rss2
    http://www.example.com/forum/external.php?type=xml

And see if any work any better, although it's strange that it's working the first time and then not updating.

I've just looked at the Zebra site again and can see that it says the site is down. You have the RSS1 link in there can you try the RSS2 one so that it's the same as my Wordpress test blog and I'll keep my eye on it.

Between us I'm sure we'll get it sorted... or die trying.

    Re: RSS

Have tried it with all of them. Have left RSS2 there, which works on my test blog too.

Interestingly, on Firefox, as an ordinary bookmark it works fine but not on the bookmark toolbar - and that is RSS2 on both
