And a massive, huge enormous thank you to Kymmy and Boris who have been working tirelessly all day to sort out this problem. Without who the forum would still be down

I have the privilege of knowing what goes on behind the scenes and I'm amazed and the level of knowledge and skills these people have and feel that it is really important for the members to know that it has been these two with Dave that have got the site back up and running finding the naughty program and destroying all traces of it

    Thank you Boris

The actual infection wasn't there for long. Dave killed it pretty quickly. The time consuming bit was working out who and how they did it and closing the vulnerability. That took most of the day.

I accessed the by my iPhone this morning while the attack thng as happening -I gave up as the response was so slow. iPhone seems ok though - I don't thnk they can get viruses. I then checked in later on my PC and everything seemed ok, no warnings or anything but have run a full scan just in case.

    x5 on this...

I had a virus alert yesterday via Avast...as soon as it appeared Avast killed the connection & sounded an audible warning. I'm glad that nothing was infected.

Just to add some more comfort and hopefully to help restore confidence.

We submit a list of new and updated threads to Google on a daily basis. As part of this routine Google scans and reports any malware.

Because we responded quickly and it was a matter of a few hours before we had killed the source, we are still listed on Google as having a clean bill of health.

So to confirm Google is independently reporting that it has not found any Malware on the site.

    Re: Infection threat?

Blimey. I spent all day yesterday clearing malware from my machine (though I'm not sure I got them from here but one at least was one of the OSX ones - though I don't think that one actually managed to do anything as it was just hanging around in a browser cache).

I'm not sure if this is related, but the first sign that something was wrong was when I rebooted, my firewall was being disabled on startup. This alerted me to the problem so I ended up having to run several anti-trojan/rootkit scanners to find and destroy everything.

AV antivirus didn't pick up anything (and isn't today when I've visited the forum though I'm guessing you have it sorted out by now).

For anyone who experiences any problem with this, it might not be safe to just rely upon your virus scanner as some of them miss certain malware. There's a few decent free additional scanners you can use at:

Ad-Aware by Lavasoft - Antivirus software, free spyware removal, firewall
Malwarebytes Anti-Malware - Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com
    a-squared Free - Free of charge Anti-Virus, Anti-Trojan, Anti-Spyware, Anti-Dialer and Anti-Worm Software - Freeware!

If you run scans using them all then some might pick up things that others miss (though you need to be careful particularly with the a-squared one as that can often throw up false positives - so it's worth checking out individual files if this is the case and doing a bit of background research).

EDIT:>> You might want to make sure that the live detection services of these aren't running at the same time as they may conflict with each other (and any anti virus software that you might already have) - but they're useful still for running scans if your antivirus doesn't contain good spyware support (AVG Free doesn't imho).

    Jotti's malware scan

will allow you to upload an individual file and scan it for any that the scanners do identify. It's a good idea to click the rescan button and not just rely upon the previous scans of other people (which is what gives the quick result) I think.

If you do find anything, it's not safe to assume that you've picked it up from here too (as you could have had gremlins hanging around in the background for some time without being aware of it and that your regular anti-virus has just missed).

I'm not sure if my problems relate to the issues you've been having here, as it's surprised me that anything has managed to get in past my firewalls, antivirus/antimalware and firefox I've been running, but it has happened around the same time so might be a possibility.
