I decided to try a flip up helmet for a change after full face Arai's for some years.
As you may know from other posts I do a lot of mileage and the kit I use has to be top quality. BMW have a reputation for quality and this helmet had been rated as the 2nd quietest helmet in a survey so it stacked up.
It was also £280 so it seemed on a par with Arai's.
Here's the blurb from the manufacturer:
Perfection in it's fifth generation. Tested in the BMW wind tunnel has meant a significant reduction in noise levels. Developed with the highest level of comfort for the majority of riders. Additional Neck and cheek pads are available, see related products. The inner shell is divided into eight segments, the outer is made of glass fibre, carbon and Kevlar® laminate.
So what's good and not so good?
Good:Bad:
- Quiet
- Comfortable (tested on a 12 hour ride)
- Light
- Can be converted to open face
Mine's coming up for 2 years old in March and it's doing very well, the lining isn't worn, and there are some minor chips on it, but it's actually fairing better than my last Arai!
- Can leak and drip on your nose, very annoying!
- Visors are expensive (£70 for the double glazed one)
