Thumbs up Sam Manicom: Distant Suns

Sam Manicom contacted me a couple of months ago asking me if I wouldn't mind reviewing his new book for him, Distant Suns.
I had to think about it for all of about a second.
I've reviewed Sam's last two books and thought they were excellent. They were certainly a great way for the reader to experience overlanding without the risk and from the comfort of my armchair.

So is it any good? Had Sam peaked with his last two books? Not a chance.
In fact it's better. Sam's writing style has matured again with this book and his way of describing his surroundings and making you feel part of what he is experiencing really is fantastic. I find that I really connect with Sam when reading the book. I didn't have to but I pretty much read it straight through from start to finish. He definitely has a talent for this book writing lark!

So what's it about, well it picks up from Sam's last two books, Into Africa and http://www.xrv.org.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=21353. It continues the adventure from Southern Africa and across in to South America and upwards. There's a great mix of the drama and the challenges that face anyone travelling this distance in countries, not to mention the wonderful people he comes across... and that to me was the amazing thing once again, the people. In this age of jealously, cultural divide, warring and generally trying to kill each other, how could so many people with so little be so kind to two strangers travelling through their lands. I live in hope of a better world!

Errr right enough of the politics.... go and buy the book immediately.... Oh you can't sorry.
Launch day is at the Ace Cafe on Sat 1st November 2008.

However you can preorder the book from Sam directly.

So come on people support Sam and keep him writing some new books for us.

Cheers
Dave
