    Smile DIY Heated Jacket

I must admit I was a little sceptical at first….mostly about my sewing skills…but after two attempts, I got the element running exactly how I wanted it!
I went for a large zig-zag across my back …covering the kidney area, up and down the face of the coat twice each side and two loops up the sleeves and there was plenty of wire for my XXL size jacket liner.
Fixing to the bike was dead simple and my first ride to work with the “heat on” was a revelation!....Then calamity…the weather warmed up last week and It was too warm to justify using it…no problem ..tuck the cable into my belt loop…and wait for the freeze!
Needless to say it was back in action this morning, which is why I’m prompted to write this review…brilliant idea, well packed, decent quality, good instructions and a fair price!

I already have the plug on my bike so would just need the element. Have you got any more details on this?

Very tempting, have you had much/ any probs with drawing too much juice? do you run them along with heated grips or extra lights?
I had a quick scan of the site but nothing shouted out to me (not that it would make a great deal of sense anyway)
Are you still as pleased? (Father Christmas is just around the corner and this might be going on his list)

    Re: DIY Heated Jacket

    Hi Shack..

I have been running the jacket alongside the factory hand grips...no apparent problems.....I have found that with the jacket plugged in...I use the grips less...

But you know the factory Heated grips ("360 grips") have a circuit built in to cut power to the grips when it senses to much current draw..?
And the lights on the switch flash to indicate this is happening...?

Well ...when the jacket is ON and the bike comes to rest at Lights or in heavy traffic....the grips cut out...I only have to raise the revs a tiny amount to rectify this, if I want to....but honestly once moving no issues at all...Oh...and I have some LED running lights in my handguards too.

    Still toasty and still happy!
    Hope Santa gets the message....

    Re: DIY Heated Jacket

I looked at this a couple of months ago but decided to get some new gear instead (My old stuff isn't waterproof anymore)

Now that the weather is taking a turn for the worse (-5 yesterday) I think I might have a go at this now.

    Thanks for the write up,
I'll stop looking for alternatives and just send the link to santa..

    Re: DIY Heated Jacket

Your German is better than mine, I have a Putnams inflatable seat (fantastic, esp for the peanuts they charge) and that appears to keep the worst at bay, altough when wet I could be tempted
I guess they would charge more than 30E for fitting from this side of the water.

Well I took the plunge and 5 hours (I'm a slow sewer) later I'm wired up and ready to go. Soldering the heating element took patience but all seems fine so far, and they say it has a 55w draw.
