    Hein Hericke again

Contacted HJC via the web and they got their UK distributor, Oxford Products, to contact me with the details of exactly the helmet I wanted (with internal sun visor and pinlock). They then said my local supplier was HG in Stockwell, which happens to be run by Lord Vader's mate Paul.

I emailed Paul today saying I had found the helmet (without the pinlock and pinlock visor) on the web pretty cheap at £116.99. Could he help?

    He replied

the official price for the HJC helmet is £139.99 (this is the official price from the importer) but I can do it for £116.99 for you....

...the pinlock insert is £24.99 and the visor is £34,99 bring the total at retail to £204.97, but to you £180.00 delivered

A done deal. Top bloke. Top company.

Very different from our local one. Went in today to buy some new winter gloves. the 3 fingered variety. My size not out on the shelf. Asked if they had any. Well they might be in one of these boxes are you OK to wait for 10 mins while we have a look. Great thinks I. Hang around for 15 minutes and they ask what size I want. I tell them and then I get told. Nope we didn't get any in. When asking when they will arrive "don't know could be next week or maybe the week after, not sure really".

So as I was on my way to my Mum's I went to Hein Gericke in Farnborough. Great service and they had them in stock. And the staff there are younger, better looking and much more informed about their stock.

So for me, to HG in Farnborough

Just wondering what HJC helmet did you get? I'm thinking of getting, are you happy with it?

    Re: Hein Hericke again

A friend of mine bought some HG trousers about 6 months ago & they have disintergrated at the knee, it's the breathable section and it looks as though the heat from the bike has melted it but surely they should withstand 'normal' daily riding? They are designed for riding bikes so should be able to withstand a certain amount of heat that comes from a bike. He tried to take them back to HG Farnborough where they were purchased but they weren't interested.

I have suggested he writes to HG head quarters as I don't think you should expect to spend so much money for something that only lasts six months?
You buy a brand for the name & quality but if it doesn't live up to the challenge then you may as well buy cheaper stuff that you just replace more often.

    What do people think?
Has anyone else experienced 'melting' trousers?

Yes but my own fault for getting too close to the exhaust,
what bike has your mate got
I burnt my leg as well as the trousers but I cant see how you could melt the knee area, he hasn't been careless with battery acid or similar has he, its easily done with signs showing much later

    Re: Hein Hericke again

After seeing Whealie's HJC helment I had a look at my local Hein Gericke. They have them for £119.99 which doesn't seem too bad.

Am I right in assuming the cost of the visor is for a pinlock-compatible one, as the one I tried on had a visor anyway?

I bought an Oxford anti-mist sticky panel from H-G last week. The anti-mist bit works but the extra plastic causes all sorts of flare from oncoming headlights. Not safe in the dark at all, which kind of defeats the object of it.

The helmet you saw me wearing does not have the pinlock and gets a bit steamed up and is a bit drafty for cold days, I love it as a summer helmet but will pick up the more standard helmet tomorrow, with pinlock.

I just got a HJC helmet in Hein Gericke also, I'm really happy with. There's no pin lock on the visor but I wore it on the Salisbury Plain rideout in the rain and it didn't mist up much at all. I have taken off the visor now though because I bought some decent goggles.

If you are buying one, have a look at the price on the box before paying, when I was paying it scanned as £119.99 but the price on the box was £99.99. I mentioned this to the guy and he checked with the manager who said that they had just increased the price but because it was on the box he gave it to me at that price

What model have you gone for? I know you like them so I'll try one next time I pop into the H-G in Norwich.
