Starcom - again
I popped by the Starcom unit in St Ives as I had a problem with wind noise from my pillion.
First thing the chap did was comment that one of my leads was well knackered. But he just marched off and replaced it, despite me insisting I had a spare at home and there was no need. he explained that the new leads are made of tougher material.
The unit and settings were all given a thorough check and my helmets - and their microphones - all examined,. I needed to bring forward the microphones so they were pressing against the lips, I was told. I'll give you some pads he said.
And as a conversation had mentioned on helmet with a boom mike that I was thinking of replacing, he trundled back off and came out with a brand new helmet headset kit and just handed it over to me.
All free of charge.
And, sure enough, having raised the mikes a little I have managed to prove that his advice was accurate and the wind noise can be cut out.
But just because I am a numptie and had not followed the fitting instructions and was therefore not happy, I walked away with a new lead, and new headset and some pads, all for free. Can't beat that sort of service.
In about five weeks Starcom will release the latest development - wireless headsets. These will replace the current wired headsets and will mean a small, quite thin box mounted onthe side of the helmet. Each will have its own volume control, so the rider or pillion can adjust their own level.
I may have to take my hammer to the piggy bank.
