    Chessington Tyres poor service

I do not usualy complain, however I am most unimpressed with Chessington Tyres which is based in Walnut Tree close in Guildford.
They did both tyres for me and I had to go back the next day as they had overtightened the rear chain and the bike felt like it was running over "ripples" because the tyre was an egg shape. They kindly replaced the dodgy tyre on the rerar and gave me bullsh** about the spindle moving itself when they tightened it up causing an over tight chain. Never done this to me with the snail cams???
The next day, I noticed that the front wheel plastics had only had the screws replaced and the bolt that goes at the top of the fork guard was missing. Upon further investigation, the front wheel clamp bolts were missing and the wheel was becomming loose. Also, I had to repair my scottoiler at the chain end as they did not refit the wheel and sproket correctly causing destruction of the twin oiler. Double DOH.
I paid £200 quid and I wish I had taken it straight to VOSA afterwards to get it checked out.
They did a good job on my Triumph a few years ago so I thought they would do the same quality job on my @. Oh how wrong was I. They used to be a FAB company but this is disgracefull. I have now resolved the issues myself with the loose front wheel and missing bolts.
Moral of this story is ....CHECK before you ride away!!!!

    Re: Two new tyres.

I am dissapointed to hear of your unhappy experience.

You don't mention what brand of tyre was fitted. I would be surprised if a new tyre was "egg shaped". Un heard of these days, more likely it was'nt seated correctly.

As for leaving the front wheel loose, unforgiveable.

In your position, a letter of complaint to the manager with a copy to the head office should instigate an investigation into this.

If you don't complain and make them aware of this it could happen to another rider with worse effect.

It's how a company handles a complaint that shows if they care.

    Re: Two new tyres.

sorry to hear of your bad news

BUT I never trust anyone will a spanner "even my own farther" always check the nuts and bolts are replaced and tight before leaving the premises.

Might take a few moments in the company of the fitter-[term loosely used] but better safe than sorry, from previous experiences sometimes its the fitters who are good and the company bad.

once had to return 2 "spanners" to a garage after the mechanic left them after fitting a clutch- "just walked in and asked were he wanted his SPANNERS shoving"

"you pays your money takes your chances"

sometimes its better to do it yourself and have the pride and knowledge of a job well done and money saved.

My Dommie speedo drive was sheared off by a tyre fitter. One letter to the director later and they just sorted it out with no fuss. A new speedo drive was ordered. I insisted on fitting it myself as I didn't want their guy anywhere near my bike again. I was given a refund of the fitting cost AND the tyre. I received a letter of apology and apparently the fitter was sacked a few days later (I knew someone else working there who told me it wasn't his first cock-up). I've been back to them since and had no further problems and they are always pretty good on price. That's Pro-Tyre in Bristol.

    Re: Two new tyres.

    Cheers guys.
I think a letter is a good idea, just so they know and hopefully stops a fitter killing a less mechanically able biker.
I don't want compensation, just what I pay for, which is a service without hassle.
Ah well, I am now calm and feeling good vibes...
