    AT Offroading

I took my AT offroading yesterday round the local trails.

She's a big old barge to hustle round (I last did these trails on a KMX125, to give you some idea)

Fell off twice, but into/onto a bank, so no harm done.

For a 2 wheeled Hummer, it's suprisingly agile once it gets going.

This was just on Conti Escapes - good fun using the throttle to line up for the next corner.

I'll try and memorise the route and lead a ride next time if anyone is interested.

It was near Ranmore Common in Ockham/Abinger/whatever that area is called.

Having just returned from my first proper off-roading out on the Plain (and bearing in mind this is my first bike) what struck me was that you want enough speed to stop you laying the bike down. But not so much that when you do come off you don't mangle yourself or the bike.

    Great fun though

I have got acouple more, but I need to resize them, which will take me a while due to limited brain capacity. The AT did very well, won the over 450cc solo class, mainly against DRs, XRs, CCM etc.

    Whoa, that's good going.

I'm glad you posted that - since my brother has now got a Thundercat (Limited off roading potential) he wants me to get a 'proper' enduro bike (Has been looking at KTM's)

The only thing is, I'd have to sell the AT. Which I don't want to do.

I'm not sure what would run out of off road ability first though - the AT, or me!

Its tyres that limit the potential. I have had built an 18 inch rear, second hand wheel with new rim and spokes supplied by Talon in Yeovil. I use Pirelli MT43 on the back, off road you can go down to daft pressures. In the picture (the easy bit of the section) it was on 8 psi, for this to work you have to fit a security bolt. I beat the other bikes because the weight is actually an advantage as you dont get knocked off line, it helps with grip in the gloop and the suspension (all standard) is superb. Add unlimited power and it really does go well off road.
When I work out pictures better I will show bike as ready for trials and some home improvements I have done, which include screen extension using toilet parts and a bicycle carrying mechanism (I am a keen cyclist).
If anyone is interested in long distance trials try the Motorcycling Club website at www.themotorcyclingclub.org.uk
