Chelsea Bridge Meet - 30 June 06 - Is this the end ?

Well my first (and last ?? ) Chelsea Bridge Meet was great fun....I'll leave someone else to tell the story as I haven't much time right now, but there is a clue in the pictures....

A quiet group of well behaved bikers

Our splendid Police move in to quell the shameful rioters

Anyway thanks to everyone for a great evening, & the rideout was a hoot

    I feel ashamed.

I engaged in this illegal activity - but why is it that illegal tea tastes so good?

Met Police handled things well though.

Parks Police - Not they didn't handle things at all well. I don't go in for sterotypes but it's good to see Wansdworth Council Special Branch keep the image of 'The Parkie' alive and well...

I rocked up at 7:30 with JVaughan, Llloyd and Kate. MacP, LordVader and Von Short Hausen were already there, so we parked in the normal place waiting for the tea hut to open, which it did at 8pm.

Burgers and brews followed, and then the minibus turned up full of Met Police. Sure, they were just doing their job, handing out leaflets that stated it was illegal to park on the pavement, or double yellow lines and that they would be prosecuting people in future. Mention was also made of the use of CCTV to do this, and one of the cameras was watching us the entire time we were there.

So, as we knew the Essex contingent were still on the way, we moved into the park as there's a parking area, with unlimited free parking for bikes. Great, no-one to annoy, we can do what we want to do ie park up and talk bikes.

So the Essex boys turned up, shortly followed by the park police. Now the park police on the park gate told me that they'd closed the park to "Keep all you bikers out" whereas the others where we'd actually parked came out with some "we close the park at dusk" excuse.

Anyway, the upshot is that we all left.

If we'd all been black, or Jewish, or Muslim, or Gay or Women, Ken Livingston would have the police commissioner hauled across the coals for that last night. But we're bikers (even though there were certainly black and women bikers there - and my handguards had looked a bit gay earlier in the day).
I feel an angry letter to the Mayor coming on.

I cant believe they said that - what a bunch of tossers. We pay our taxes etc, why cant we park up ? There wasnt that big a group of us and no-one was causing any trouble and we were nowhere near any flats/houses. I know my local parks close very late in the summer - i cant belive in Central London the park closes at 10pm (i think that was the time?).'

I can understand if the police want to avoid accidents on the bridge, and i suppose in fairness the residents have a right to some peace.

But when you see what goes on at the ACE cafe and the Police do nothing

gues we'll have to come up with another venue hopefully - there is one in Soho, but i'm not sure it can take a capacity crowd. Ace cafe is good fun, but could be a bit dangerous?

I've been emptying my pockets and I came across the paperwork which was handed to some of us by the Met Police last night...

As someone pointed out, a few of the residents of the new luxury flats, who caused this situation to come about, park THEIR OWN scooters on the pavement outside the flats.

Since the much of the weight of this action is due to illegal parking on the pavement and road, it will be interesting to see if illegal parking by the residents stops. Presumably the Police will have warned them of this ...Have they shot themselves in the foot perhaps ??

The questoin remain though would you want smiling hooligans like these following pics show outside your front door

Then you have to deal with some odd looking bikes in your neighbourhood as well

The city is no place for hardcore going DS bikes like these

Then to top it off you have to deal with the damn paparazi hanging about taking snaps

And finally why on earth if you don't want to share your millions let someone else have a peacefull sunset

My 2p would be again 1% of tossers closing a long going event for the rest of the guys who just want to get out after a hard week for a cup of tea and a burger. It's not like alchohol is being served and the police have to deal with a couple hundred drunk unruly people. I really feel sorry for the fact that the police was there in full force wasting their time and my tax money while there is more serious **** going on in the city. Just before royal mint court by Tower Bridge I stopped for two cars to cross the road, both the feckers was on their mobile phones whils't turning a vehichle across the road The police will make a fortune out of those offences alone instead of handling out leaflets - what a shame

I particular feel for the guy who's been making a honest living selling tea, coffee etc on the side of the bridge for how long and his business just been ripped from underneath him in one evening.

Unfortunately I can't say I'm surprised. Bloody shame though.
