Kaoko - A journey, not destination!

    The Map

FortyZA (Eddie), his brother Richard, Krazy-eyes and me. It was big fun and a group of people that made the trip enjoyable. Thanks to everyone and the smiles that never faded (maybe once, on oom Willie se pad)

    Can you spot the Fairy?

    Krazy at the Nam border

    At Zelda's in Namibia

The guy from Germany on his TransAlp with mods. 40l Tank. In Windhoek.

The "finger Klip" between Outjo and Khorixas. Only after viewing the pic I saw that it looks like a huge d..k. funny!

    A view from the top of the "Finger Klip". (S20 22 59.2 E15 26 01.4)

    Petrified forest. (S20 26 21.4 E14 36 22.5)

The turn-off to Plamwag. We filled our tanks with petrol and slept over in the Lodge. Nogal mooi daar.

Richard on his way to the turn-off.

The view from the Palmwag Lodge camping toilet.

    Palmwag Lodge camping (S19 53 12.6 E13 56 13.5).

    Krazy's tent and KTM .

    On the way to Sestonfein.

The fort in Sesfontein use to be a German army fort. It is now a lodge.

    Entrance to the Sesfontein fort. (S19 07 15.2 E13 37 13.9)

Another beer spaza shop at Sesfontein. Must say there were na way that we would have dehidrated on this trip.

    Going to Puros.

Look how close the Gemsbok is. Beautifull!!

Taking a rest under a tree for the rest to get there.

They arrived! after I started praying.

    Long road?

    We found some desert elephants.

    Puros (S18 44 03.8 E12 56 33.5).

    Krazy at Puros

Krazy Fixing and teaching me how to fix a tyre. Man, he is the expert. Without the time it takes for the patch to dry, I would say no more than 5 minutes.

    Going to Orupembe. (S18 09 30.2 E12 33 36.4)

This one is my desktop now. You should see the diferent colours on the original pic. Wow!

    Some other pics.

    Richard.

    Krazy

Richard and FortyZA wqith the oak from the Cjeck (of so iets) republic's bike.

    Richard

    Forty

    At the waterpump at Orupembe. (S18 09 30.2 E12 33 36.4)

    On our way to Epuwa (S18 03 46.6 E13 50 29.0)

And then AGAIN I thought of girls. Man, look at that thing

    Another spaza shop and beers.

    Just some nice scenery.

And this. Poop Sand (Telkom Sand). It looks smooth (feels like water) but underneath it got ruts that you can not see and, it rocks man!! It's like holding onto a horse that you can not handle. This is like riding on a sand road in the dark without lights. Not really but is funny not to be able to see what is under that sand.

    Sleeping at a rest camp in Epuwa (S18 03 36.8 E13 50 33.9)

OK. I have another 70 Pics to post. I now have to go home. I will do the rest tomorrow.

    Next day, going to Okangwati. (S17 26 04.0 E13 16 24.4)

Yet another cold beer spaza shop.

Now, this lady had a story. Let me tell. While I was standing in the spaza to buy beers next to her, she saw me and got such a fright from seeing a white man, that she started wiping some of her red stuff from her body and putting in on my face. After a while I was all red and covered with the red stuff. She laughed and found it pretty amusing, so did Forty and Richard. You will see some of the Epupa Falls photos got my red face. Once at Epupa, an Italian girl saw me and said “Hey, look at that guy, he looks like a Mahimba”.

    Still at Okangwati.

There you see the Dad, mother and son.

what a nice Boabab tree. On our way to Epupa Falls.

    Zebra mountains at the back

At Epupa Falls (S17 00 07.5 E13 14 46.1). Check my red face, the rest was in my helmet.

    On the lookout point looking over Epupa Falls. (S17 00 07.6 E13 14 27.0)

    Our fridge.

    View from the camp site.

    Our food. Braai Bully Beef.

OK. The next bunch of photos were taken in the dreaded peace of road between Epupa Falls and Swartboois Drift (S17 20 28.4 E13 50 56. going to the Kunene lodge (S17 21 15.7 E13 52 52.6) to sleep. On the other side of the Kunene River is Angola. There are much more photos for this part of the trip, but these shows the atmosphere the best. It was going up a mountain and going down. Going up and down. Took us 9 hours to do 95km. But worth it.
I did this road with a Land Cruiser and also van Zyl's Pass (S17 39 34.2 E12 41 54.3) plenty times, and as usual, this peace of road is mentally more tiring than van Zyl's. You have to keep focus every meter you go. And after a while, you stop taking photos.

    Finaly arrived at Kunene River Lodge. (S17 21 15.9 E13 52 52.6)

The Kunene River and Angola other side.

    Next morning going to Ruacana. (S17 26 13.7 E14 21 49.5)

    The Hippo Pools (S17 24 27.6 E14 13 11.3).

    Looking down the Ruacana gorge.

    At the Namibia/Angola Border.

This is a pic of the Angola border post. When they saw me taking a pic, they came rushing with guns and arms in the air. But I already took the photo so I was racing away like mad.

Arived at a place that is not on any map (S17 33 50.8 E17 54 19.2) to sleep the night. This is just off "oom (uncle) Willies" road.

Somewhere on "oom (uncle) Willies" road.

Another spaza shop with cold beers and good company.

Then we went thru Rundu (S17 54 50.8 E19 46 10.0) and kept on going, and slept at Popa Falls (Rapids) (S18 07 18.7 E21 34 59.1). From Epupa Falls to Popu Falls. Nice!

Here we met a couple that came down from Switzerland.

    Early the next morning.

We went thru the Caprivi Strip and stopped for fuel at Kongola (S17 49 18.6 E23 23 48.5). Found this nice reminder what we missed for the last 2 weeks.

O! What funny creatures the GS riders . Also very similar to the pic above. I do say he picks them well, blue and white outfit peeing in a blue and white dustbin.

Driving to Katima Mulilo (S17 30 09.3 E24 16 12. where we ate and then went thru the border post into Botswana at Ngoma (S17 54 55.3 E24 42 45.0) and thru the Chobe game reserve and sleeping at the Chobe Safari Lodge (S17 48 31.5 E25 08 43.6).

    check my skirt

Riding to FrancisTown and back to South Africa.

    FrancisTown (S21 10 25.6 E27 30 45.7)

We slept at Ellisras (Lephelale S23 40 37.4 E27 44 27.3) and got home the next day. End Of Story.
