The Four compass points of Britain.

Got up this morning and looked where the Most Northerly, Southerly, Easterly and Westerly points of the British mainland were. Not the United Kingdom and not the British Isles before you start.
    I came up with:
    West - Ardnamurchan Point ( Scotland )
    North - Dunnet Head ( Scotland )
    East - Ness Point ( Lowestoft )
    South - Lizard Point ( Cornwall )
So I knocked the nearest one off today
    Lizard Point

I hope to do Ness point soon and the two Scottish ones in Mid March.

You appear to be some distance from the water there. Go back and get the bike down to the water's edge, boy!

The waters edge was a bikes length in front of me and about 30 feet below.

Sounds great! If you make Lowestoft, itīs worth a detour up to Southwold for tea, chips and a look at the pier.

Next time anyone is down get in touch. I hope you had a cream tea at the Polmeor Cafe which has a terrace on the tip above the disused RNLI station.
Nice spot that. Much nicer than Lands End which is now a theme park.
The white building on the hill was an old Lloyds lookout station to log ship's movements.

Beyond that is still a National Coastwatch Institution lookout - these are staffed by volunteers all year during daylight hours. The idea is if you get into trouble on the sea and have no comms they will see you and call HM Coastguard.

IanS, fewtrees and I visited Ardnamurchan point last year on the way back home from the Haggis Run. A fantastic ride over the peninsula - very atmospheric.

    On the road. Ardnamurchan peninsula

Ardnamurchan point. The most westerly point of the British mainland.
