    Welsh rideout

I went to Wales for a quick rideout and to test my new tent. Here are a few photos of the weekend

This is near snowdonia where the peaks are high

This is on the A5 going towards Bangor

It's always a bonus to find roads that say this..

It becomes a little rough but nothing hard

    Looking out towards Bangor

A bit further inland but you can still see the coast in the distance..
Lot of moorland and plenty of side winds - just as well it's a nice day.

There are lots of view like this, where you approach resevoirs and lakes.

Tiny roads wind their way down to the lakesides.. Often hardly used, this one had a strip of gravel and pine needles etc running down the center

    Plenty of fresh air here..

At first I thought this was cloud/mist but realised someone must be burning gorse or something..

I've found that a lot of dead-ends aren't really dead-ends, it's just that no-one wants a lot of traffic going down there..

Nice little interesting roads away from the power rangers..

Too inviting not to ride down even if it is a detour..

Bluebells everywhere, looks better when you're there but these things went on for a couple of miles..

I think I got lucky as I managed to find some cracking little roads that didn't seem to be used much..

    View in the opposite direction.

This one reminds me of the dales

Cheery farmer said, sure, ride on through, so I did.. It probably wasn't his farm

    Welsh rideout continued..

More roads/tracks that were is disarray - great!

I'd ridden through some forests and ended up coming out here..

    And there's more..

You have to finish with one of these..

All of these photos came from 5-6 hours riding and I've missed out the other 30 or so..

When I was looking for a campsite, it seems only the really popular ones are advertised and they'll be close to the main roads. Also, I'd hoped that Snowdonia was going to be the best place to ride but I found the better stuff was between Betws-y-coed and Bala.. I have GPS logs of these tracks if anyone is interested.

    Cheers

    Re: Welsh rideout

You found all those places and had time to take pictures!!! Congratulations on finding such good tracks. I'd always thought there were next to none in North Wales.

Today Ben, Fridge and I went for a bimble around Mid Wales. the weather was mostly fine, sunny even, as we met up at Chepstow (which is a long way from Ben's home!)

We rode along the ridge to Monmouth, through Rock to Abergavenny. Stopped for a coffee - well you do, don't you?

We then took A4077/B4558 to Talybont-on-Usk, and allowed the sat/nav to find some narrow roads through to Sennybridge avoiding the A40. The roads turned out to be very narrow. Good views though.

These roads were very tricky: narrow single-track, winding, poor visibility and in places covered in dirt, mud, horse droppings, twigs... you name it.

We then joined the A40 to Llandovery. Rather more traffic than we'd seen so far (!) but not too bad.

After lunch at the West End Cafe, Llandovery - well you do, don't you? - we took a slightly wet the A4069 over the Black Mountains to Brynamman. On two corners my Vara slithered around where traffic had worn the road surface smooth and th rain had mixed with weeks of dust and oil. Neither ben nor Fridge experienced any problems; curious. Fridge reckoned I needed to give it more gas. Cheeky monkey.

At Brynamman Ben headed west and Fridge and I wound our way east to the Heads of the Valleys Road and our respective homes.
