Unhappy We went camping to the new forest

    Well,sort of
Cause when i booked the campsite there where only a few places left.So when we arrived on sat afternoon after a not so nice ride down and tried to book in we where asked"Where is your chemical toilet?"
A bit surprized i turned around looked at my bike, tent on top and went something like "What the f...?"
There where no toilets on the campsite
So after a bit of german diplomacy they oganized us a place at a diffrent campsite which had toilets. That was all, toilets, nothing else.Next pub, shop at least 4 miles away.No good
We just put up our tent(must say very impressed with my Kyam Biker)and than went to see richie and family. Thanks rich for the food and drink .I was a bit stressed out by the time we arrived at yours. After the clouds moved in we said good by and made our way to a pub on our way home to get some food and drink.
Well this whole trip was only to get my gear and bike sorted for the haggis which i managed to do
1:Tent needs stronger pegs as the ground in the new forest was very rocky and i bent most of them
2eb found this washbag in Superdrug and it holds our washgear for 2 weeks i would say.The cost was £4.99 i think for the lynx kit and deb bought a few travel size bottles for 99p each. You sort of can see the size in comparison to the cd cover

3:These i bought in Blacks outdoor shop for i think £20 os and they are so cool in the tent

So all in all it was not to bad.Did a proper wet weather test on the way.
I dont think that we will to have to buy a rainsuit for deb as she did not get to much of the Rain. Also my bike balance was ok after i sorted a few things,so yes lookling forward to the haggis now

Yes, I never leave home without my "40 Chart Hits CD"...essential camp(ing) gear that!

Sorry to hear about the camping mix-up. What kinda dodgy campsites dont have toilets ffs?! Deary me.

If you're after some hardcore (and hard ground) pegs then take a look here. I've not tested mine yet, but I reckon I'll struggle to bend them! They're thick like a pencil, so not the most compact, but it doesn't really matter once they're on the bike. Often worth carrying a minimum amount (say 4) of sand pegs too. The few times I've tried to pitch on proper sand with normal pegs has been a bit of a farce.

And yes...there is proper sand in Scotland! And very nice it is too

Toilets? Thats why fields have stones and grass in them!

But for tent-pegs, try a Macpac set, "T" section easton aluminium, about 6" long, but you really can hammer them in, and a set of Saunders "strom riders", which clip to the pegging point, and either allow you to use double pegs, or put lots of rocks on.

Cheapo or snow option is to tie any old polythene carrier bag to the pegging point, and either bury it in sand/snow, or pop a heap of rocks on each one. They will last a few days each, less if the weather is really bad, but you can renew your arrangement when you buy food and beer.

(This last one works up to at least 4000m, with really strong winds.)

LOL! I've camped in winds in Scotland that have broken my tent poles!

The weather was nice up here in Scotland last weekend, unlike south of the border!

I recall pulling into a campsite in Stirling one night, absolutely soaked! We put up the tent and the site owner came over and handed us some 50p pieces, I looked at him puzzled and he replied "you'll need them for the tumble drier"!
That was over ten yrs ago coming home from Ireland but I still remember how fulfilling it felt to be sitting in my tent in my underwear eating a chinese takeaway watching the rain outside thinking how cozy it was in my tent, it made it all worth while!

Roll on the Stella! I can't wait to get over to Europe camping all the way!
