Salisbury Plain 10.06.07

Had a great time playing on the Plain today. Only 2 for the ride as Dave couldn't make it due to bike trouble. Sorry to hear it Dave. Hope it's nothing serious.

It all started well in the carpark of the Little Thief outside Warminster.

We found plenty of dirt tracks to play on and then we found one of the few mud puddles out there and decided to stop and take some pictures.
Matt showed the way it should be done

Then it was my turn

Whod've thought that an Africa Twin wouldn't float?

After about an hour of fruitless attemps to extricate the stricken beast I found out 3 things: one, my boots are fully waterproof , always walk the course , and three, an Africa Twin with a bash guard full of mud is just too heavy and unwieldy for Matt and me to pull out. I felt a right !!! A huge thanks to Matt for trying so hard for me.

So anyway, I accosted a passing 4x4 driver with a winch to help me out and hey presto I was out.

On the plus side, it started first time and we carried on to some more trail riding before going our separate ways.

I want to go again next Sunday. Hopefully there will be a few more of us, just in case .

I may have had a slight trim. Anyway, I had a great time today. I'm glad it was somebody else who got stuck though.

Can anyone spot the lack of a BMW?

Once youtube have processed the video, I've got a short clip of the muddy bit where 1gear1brake manages to get exactly one bike length into the mud before stopping and digging a large hole.

And here it is close up.

I think we both enjoyed ourselves today, next time though I'm going to bring my maps - makes navigating much easier.

Looks like a fab time was had by all! Pity I missed it, but thats another story.
I do like seeing big bikes in potentially unsuitable terrain!!
