    ERZBERG 2007 - a short picture story

As promised, here is a sequel to my previous post on the Erzberg expedition.

A few random pics... here we go!

We leave on wednesday morning early, our "racing twins" are eager to reach Eisenerz in Austria.

The first sight we get of the Iron Mountain... we are so thrilled!

The Italian convoy finally reaches the racing venue.

The same evening we meet Marc Coma, Dakar winner 2006 (we also get to meet Cyril Despres, Dakar winner 2007 and the great David Knight, current world enduro champion) - all great guys!

Ready to race the Konigsklasse on thursday afternoon, the Africa Twins are lined up waiting for their riders.

    Waiting for the start...

... I try to look relaxed (yeah, sure!).

Giovanni Sala, 5 times world enduro champion and 19 (!) times Italian national champion, goes off first.

Roberto Boano with his beautiful bike is ready to go!

Stephan starts his race (he's the owner of African Queens).

    I cross the finish line...

Group photo of our team after race two: the mountain has been conquered!

We end up in the main tent where we meet Giovanni Sala; he stays with us to chat and drink beer for two hours... amazing guy, a champion both on and off his motorcycle.

    Guess who this guy is...

    Our camp...

The entire camp from above... 1380 racers plus friends, girlfriends etc.

Wake up call to race every morning from this vehicle.

An R1 at the finish line, can you say wheelspin???

I get to try the KTM 950 Super Enduro... mind boggling and very addictive.

While riding the Austrian 100 hp offroad monster, my mate Alberto and I meet Giovanni Sala again.
He spent most of his time signing autographs and shaking hands: how many world class riders are like this?

And now some racing shots of me... damn, almost looks like I can ride!!

    Sequence of shots

    Would I do this again?
Is it worth the hassle, the trip, the expenses, the angry girlfriend?
    Do I need to answer?

WOW, fantastic pics mate. the whole event looks a hoot!

There are some very mad people out there, who on earth thought of using the R1.

    Looks kinda cool though

Thanks to all for your comments...!

Why don't you guys start thinking about an XRV.org.uk Team?
It's far but not impossible (London - Eisenerz for example is around 850 miles) and it would be great to meet up and race together.
We are already planning a bigger convoy for next year: we want to flood the Konigsklasse starting grid with Africa Twins!

That Boano bike looks really tasty - nice colour scheme/graffix

You certainly look like like you can handle the bike - fantastic pictures.

I did find some race results on the internet, but cant find them now - you @ boys did us proud

How did the KTM Enduro compare to the Af Twin ???????????????????

    Cheers

    Ant.

And whoever owns that Guinness AT has very good taste, however he does need to put a keg on the rear rack.
