    Re: The Whisky Trail

Thought I'd kick off the new year by reviving this thread.
Took a little run out this afternoon, seeing as a slight thaw had set in - plus 1 degree = 12 more than yesterday .

Auchroisk distillery near Mulben - says something about J&B Rare on the sign at the gate - if you can see the sign for snow

Here's a little linky thing that gives some info on the Malt

    Talking Re: The Whisky Trail

Another day out in the hills looking for distilleries . . .

Tomnavulin was the first I rode too today. The roads to this point had been fine. Wet and gritty but no snow or slush.

The lack of snow & slush changed as I rode towards Tomintoul, till there was nearly 2 inches on the road.
However, by the time I reached the A95 at Grantown on Spey, the snow was gone from the road and I had a brisk ride home via Aberlour

    Re: The Whisky Trail

Decided to grab another "distillery" today, seeing as the weather was rather nice.

Found this one at the side of the road near Macduff - Glenglassaugh distillery.
    http://www.maltmadness.com/whisky/glenglassaugh.html

As I mentioned, the weather was nice - at the start the afternoon. Whilst riding along the cliff tops near Gardenstown I spotted downpours of snow heading to shore - time to head in land. As I rode the A920 from Huntly to Dufftown, on a road that just kept climbing, I came across these cars parked in the snow . .

The locals need to do this as the access road to their farms can often be blocked by snow for weeks on end. At least with the cars next to the road they can get about when away from the farm.

I'd missed the snow until just after I took this picture. I then got caught in a right downpour for the next 15 miles.
The bike after those 15 miles . .

    . . . . . with just a little covering of snow

    Hi Steve
Tamnavulin took a hammering ,probably won't be back in production for weeks yet, the weight of snow caved in the mash house roof as well as damaging one of the warehouse roofs, not my problem now.
Give me a shout if you want to pose outside Balvenie,it isn't normally accessable to the public unless they take the £25 tour.
Got to compliment your application of copperslip on the old TA, havn't taken out a bolt yet that hasn't been coated.

    Re: The Whisky Trail

Well roads are clearing but famly weekend , so spent most of the weekend digging out spaces to park as we still have shed loads from the few feet that dumped wednesday Thursday and space for 3 extra cars... Heavy stuf. The big douglas fir at the back has droprd two big branches with the weight of snow. Missed the house !!
Mental . With what's dropped of the roof it's about 4 foot deep across the garage door, but I guess this is abou 8 foot compressed as it's like rock!!

    Re: The Whisky Trail

Well done Steve, I decided to spend the nice part of the day stripping that stupid Kawasaki carbs yet again. If you turn the carbs upside down you cannot blow through the feed pipe so seem to be sound but as soon as fitted and petrol introduced they piss petrol all over the car park! Then the sleet came on as all the panels and seat are sitting on the Landrover bonnet! It's back in to the Scot-ads this week! Hopefully someone will relive me of this damned torture device!
Hope to have the Varadero back on the road in a month, make a change from Fiona's Beemer!
On a side note, I fixed the managers boiler at Balvenie a while back so due a favour, might beat you to that one! LOL!

    Re: The Whisky Trail

In answer to the above questions:-

Vara's fine Craig - got to 220 miles before the reserve light came on yesterday which is 15 miles more than normal . Must be the slow snow riding . And yes, they are the HiViz bullet LEDs that you can get via the site discount area - excellent bit of kit & well worth the money.

Lee - I've already done the "bike in front of Balvenie distillery" shot - I think it's an about page 4 of this thread . But thanks for the offer.

Jim - Come on, get the big girl back on the road - salt wash's off

But ye, roll on the better weather.

PS - happy St Davids day BOYO's

    Steve T
