    A Wiltshire bimble

As I had a day off work I decided to go for a leisurely ride around Wiltshire and the Plain.

First lane of the day was just over the hill from Calne, nice and easy and a good one for getting the back wheel spinning on the gravel

Stopped for some petrol in Devizes and then did a couple more lanes before joining the Plain at Redhorn hill.

Unfortunately the flags were flying as the Army were firing shells so I had to stick to the perimeter road.

If you look closely you can see a red flag in the background

When I came to the barrier near Enford farm I took to the tarmac and headed for Everleigh to see if it was clear there

    It was.......

These cows seemed to be enjoying themselves, they even had their own water-tanker

Next I decided to head for Manningford Bruce but the trouble with this area is there are so many tracks it is hard to work out where you're going and of course I got lost

Soon I was into grass covered ruts, oh deep joy

Eventually I made it to the end of the Byway and decided to park up for a break

It was time to head for home so I took the tarmac up through Pewsey and then rode Bluebell woods which was excellent as usual. I came out on the A4 near Silbury Hill and rode up the Ridgeway.

Some parts of it are nice and gentle but other parts are quite rutted and slippery

I did some more lanes around Avebury and then back over towards Calne.

On the way back down through Lacock I stopped to get a shot of one of my favourite houses, Lacock Manor House......

Everthing had gone well until now

I remembered a lane that I hadn't ridden for about 12 years and decided to check it out. It used to be a doddle so I wasn't concerned until I got into it and found that it had been mullered by 4x4's. The ruts were very deep and water filled but there was no way I could turn my Adventure around on my own.

I ploughed on through until turned a corner and thought 'on sh*t', as far as I could see there were huge deep puddles and boggy grass

I decided to get the bike up onto the verge and ride along there but it got stuck in a rut and I was wedged with my front wheel almost up against the fence

I needed to find something to put under the back wheel so that I could get some grip so I started to look in the bushes and amazingly foung a metal grid. I placed it under the wheel, got on the bike and inched it up onto the verge

then I rode alongside the puddles and ruts until the next corner

At this corner the puddle covered the width of the lane so I had no choice but to ride through it. The bike amazed me as with sheer drive and that rear Dunlop it pulled through the gloop and out the other side.

This was the state of the bike after........

It was a good ride-out but - Note to self; do not do 'one more lane'
do not go trail-riding on your own

    cheers, Bob.

    Nice looking trails.
You did well to get the bike through that lot.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE
