    Austria/slovenia trip

Took the VARA on a shake down trip to France, Germany, Austria, Slovenia, Italy, Scotland (don't ask).

Peformed like a dream, Austria a bikers paradise - going in from the west Bregenz side, route 200 across the Tyrol towards Innsbruck - then through the Grosglockner National Park (18 Euro's entrance fee).

Slovenia - I didn't spend to long in - a couple of hours, rode down the Soca valley popped out the bottom back into Italy, the top of the Soca quite sporting, infact bloody scary in places got abit tame once the Julian Alpes were left behind.

Shot across the top of Italy hung a left up the Aosta valley - over the St Bernard pass - hair pins on the Italian side keep your attention, descent on the French quite hairy, no crash barriers and about 3K of fresh air about 6 inches from the right boot. Needless to say it brought out the devout coward in me and I adopted a 'live to fight another day' philosophy for that particular stretch of road.

Calais on the payage - Dover home.

    Re: Austria/slovenia trip

Went 6 months back; had it 7 years - it was beginning to feel its age, did a cracking job in that time but I needed a tool that could eat the miles without wrecking me into the bargain, the VARA does that and more, its a very versatile touring machine.
However, I wouldn't consider taking the VARA where I took the Africa, its far to heavy and to be honest I don't think it would take the same punishment, I know some of the GS fraternity take the bikes off road, but in my opinion despite being similar in weight, its a different animal C of G is lower ect.

I wouldn't rule out a road trip to Maroc, there is massive scope for seeing a fair bit of the desert regions whilst sticking to the tarmac.
