    Loch Ness

Went for a wee blast up the road today cos I was getting fed up working in the garden. Decided to go and look for the monster, so I
called in for a cup of coffee at the mother in law's ------ then
headed up the other other side of the loch, (away from the touristy bits around Urquhart castle.)

Weather was spot on, not a car to be seen

This is looking down on the Loch from the " quite side "

Bloody camera ran out of battery, so only one photo, sorry folks

Anyways, hope you like it and that you all had a good run out over Easter.

Love that road . My folks live just out side Drumnadrochit on the busy side of the loch . When ever i head up to visit i love to do the lap of the loch , down to Fort Augustusn and up the quiet side ( B862 / B852 ).
Looking forward to coming up before TLD .

    Re: Loch Ness

Great photo. It's really beautiful up there on the east side of the loch. I spent a couple of days having a good wander around there when I was up there last summer before I headed home.

I went searching for the old house that belonged to Aleister Crowley and Jimi Page:

Aleister Crowley - The Other Loch Ness Monster - that one.

I bumped into one of the neighbours and we got chatting and he showed me where the house was and told me a little about it, about the area and when Jimi Page visited. Then I got talking to an old scottish lady and her neice in the old graveyard nearby who were visiting from America. They were members of the fraser family who are buried there. Was great hearing all the old stories about bodysnatchers and what it was like when she lived there as a girl and stuff.

I don't know if you've ever been to that old graveyard, but it's well worth a look if you haven't seen it. Its a really beautiful place in an eery sort of way. Some of the grave stones and monuments there are amazing pieces of sculpture. It's not often you see gravestones with skull and crossbones on, and 'beheaded at...' written alongside the names. The history behind some of the people who are buried there is amazing too (one of them an ancestor of the lady I met was the last person to be publically executed in Britain who is reputed to have been a sort of machiavelian double agent).

Was defintely one of the high points of my trip (looks like you got much better weather though - it rained a LOT when I was there)

Superimposed/macjockshop photo --- nah the real mcoy

Zen --- you are one strange dude
Boleskine House has always been a bit iffy, know of a couple of local guys who " dared " to stay overnight when Jimmy's factor was away on business, deffo an eerie place.
There is supposed to be a tunnel leading from the house across the road to the graveyard in order for Mr Crowley to carry out his dastardly deeds
Think personally he was as high as a kite most of the time, even in those days

    Re: Loch Ness

I found the house itself instead of giving off some scary supernatural 'portal to another dimension' feel, just seemed to be a really nice chilled out place in beautiful surroundings where I met nice friendly and interesting people, so quite the opposite of what that video suggests really (though I didn't really get to see much of the house as I didn't want to go wandering around on private property and bothering anyone and most of it was hidden from view). Might have been a different matter if I'd got to stay in it once the lights go out and the imagination starts working overtime though

I'd heard that it had been a b&b at one point so was hoping I'd get to stay there for the night before heading home, but it looks like that's no longer the case unfortunately. It'd have been really cool to have stayed there for the night (after the day I'd had riding around in the rain trying to find the place I suspect I'd have slept like a baby even if it is haunted ). How did your friends find it (any wierd stories?).

The guy I bumped into who lived next to it was telling me about that tunnel too. I hadn't heard of that before. I'd read a biography of crowley the year before, and you're probably right about him being high as a kite. Seems like a fascinating character who lived a very interesting life and was connected with all sorts of interesting people and events though for all his faults.

The house just seemed like 'a house' to me though really even knowing about its history. The graveyard was well worth a look through - amazing place full of history and beautiful design

I thought you were going to write that as the battery ran out Nessie stuck her head out of the water and stuck her tongue out at you.

    Re: Loch Ness

    Zen,

Jimmy Page revelled in the image of the place and as a result, the interior of the house was mystical to say the least.
When my friends stayed there, many years ago, ( 3 girls and 3 guys ), they said there was one room which was permanently cold. They heard the odd noises associated with an old house, but in particular, one of the girls saw a figure in one of the rooms wooooooo----spooky

To be honest, they too, were probably smoking spurious substances, but they didn't seem that spooked out by the house.

    Debs,

    Consider it done
Look forward to seeing you again
